Chapter 1293:
âDonât come any closerâ¦â Herman recoiled in fear, bumping into his father as he scrambled backward. In his panic, he yelled, âWhat are you all doing out here? Get back inside!â
Denver Clifford, Hermanâs father, let out a heavy sigh, saying, âHerman, we canât win against them. Have you forgotten who Tonya is?â
Ophelia Clifford, Hermanâs mother, added, âI knew weâd face this day when you took over this island. Herman, join me in kneeling and asking for mercy.â
Filled with bitterness, Herman retorted, âLeave me alone, you losers!â
âEnough!â Harlee had no interest in their family drama. Holding a gun in one hand, she turned her cold gaze on Herman and said, âTell me everything you know about Tonya, every last detail!â
Herman glanced around nervously, realizing why they hadnât simply shot him. They needed information about Tonya. He suddenly grew arrogant. âHa-ha, you want to know about Tonya, do you? Fine, but itâll cost you a hundred million and a safe passage out of here, then Iâll spill everything⦠Ah!â
His taunt was cut short as Harleeâs boot connected with his chest, pinning him to the floor. He spat blood and gasped for air, crushed under her force.
âStill not talking?â Harlee cast a cold glance at her men and raised her hand. Without hesitation, Robbie handed her a whip.
The whip cracked through the air, striking the Clifford family members and drawing cries of pain from every direction.
âIâll speak! Iâll tell you everythingâ¦â the other members of the Clifford family began to plead, desperate to avoid another strike.
Herman tried to maintain control as he said, âWho dares to speak? I⦠Ah!â His arrogance was quickly quashed as the whip slashed across his face, sending him tumbling across the floor, bleeding.
âWill you talk now or not?â Harleeâs glare was fierce, her hand tight on the whip, ready for his response.
âHeh, I look down on youâ¦â Herman spat.
Harlee delivered another fierce strike to Hermanâs leg. She struck with increasing force, as if trying to break his resolve, and asked, âWill you speak now?â
Seeing her intensity, Rhys took the whip from her grasp and delivered a sharp lash to Herman.
The strike hit Hermanâs groin, making him lose his composure completely. Already shaken by a near miss from a bullet, the pain from the whip made him break down, and he wet himself. Overwhelmed, he was unable to speak.
âHand it over.â Harlee reached for the whip, her gaze fierce with unrestrained fury. She was determined to uncover the truth about Tonya, and no one could deter her.
Rhys touched her back soothingly, murmuring, âI understand, Lee. Calm down.â
Since Tonyaâs demise, Harlee had experienced a resurgence in her depression, often losing emotional control in ways she hadnât during previous episodes with Rhysâ absenceâepisodes she didnât even recall having. Only Rhys was aware of these struggles.
When Noel saw the change in Harlee, he was startled. As he moved to intervene, Rhys interjected, âSheâs unaware of it.â
Noel grasped the full extent of the situation. His face mirrored shock, sorrow, and frustration, but he felt helpless. What could he do without Rhysâ approval? He was powerless to help Harlee recover. Above all, he felt a profound sadness. What had Harlee endured this time?
