Chapter 1277:
Despite his protest, Goodwin interjected, âKid, you donât have to pretend to be strong.â
Goodwin caught his gaze.
Dario reluctantly resumed sitting and said quietly yet assertively, âIâm not a kid. Iâm already fifteen.â
âYou still need medical care at fifteen,â Goodwin said while tending to Darioâs injuries.
Dario observed the process in a haze, puzzled about Tonyaâs sudden disappearance and equally mystified by Harleeâs unexpected arrival on the island. Yet, at that moment, he felt an overwhelming sense of joy. Goodwin efficiently cleaned and dressed the wounds in under ten minutes. Goodwin turned to Harlee. âMrs. Green, given the basic tools at my disposal, Iâve managed to only treat the surface injuries. Weâll need to take care of the rest on the cruise ship.â
Harlee gave a nod and offered her hand to Dario. âAre you able to walk? Would you prefer to come with us for a walk or rest aboard the cruise ship?â
Dario noticed Harleeâs hands, so clean and delicate compared to his own dirt-underlaid nails. He swiftly got to his feet and said, âI can walk. I want to come with you.â
As they walked, Dario stayed close to Harlee.

âHarlee, may I ask why Tonya hasnât visited the island for so long?â Dario asked with as much bravery as he could gather. He was certain that Tonya wouldnât abandon them, but the fear of receiving bad news still lingered in his mind.
Harlee stopped walking, her smile fading into a sorrowful expression. âTonya has passed away. Thatâs why she hasnât returned.â
Dario was at a loss for words. He grasped the meaning of each word individually, yet together they formed a truth he couldnât digest. He struggled to accept it. Tonya was both powerful and kind-hearted. He felt people like her deserved to live much longer.
Tears welled up in Darioâs eyes, and he clenched his fists to hold them back. He wouldnât have accepted this from anyone else, but it was Harlee who spoke of Tonyaâs fate. She wouldnât mislead him about such a matter. The light of hope in his life had just dimmed.
Harlee soothingly tousled his hair. âItâs alright. Tonya remains with us in spirit.â
Dario raised his head. âHarlee, can you take me away from here? I wish to see Tonya.â
Since his first encounter with Harlee, Dario hadnât spoken of leaving, as he felt obligated to protect others still on the island. But nowâ¦
âAbsolutely,â Harlee responded, her smile gentle. âDo you see those Iâve brought along? Theyâre here to establish a farmhouse restaurant on the island. Itâs going to breathe life into this place, and everyone will be free to leave at their will.â
âReally?â Dario was utterly astonished, hardly daring to believe such a possibility. âWe can freely come and go from the island?â
âYes,â Harlee assured, still smiling.
âGreat!â Dario exclaimed, overwhelmed with joy. It was his brightest moment in two years. âLetâs head to the secret base and spread this amazing news to everyone.â
âSecret base?â Harlee asked, looking confused.
âYes. Everyone who came to the island with Tonya, except for that family, was Kina. We simply lacked weapons, which is why we were always taken advantage of.â A shadow passed over Darioâs face again. âTo resist, we discovered a cave and made it our secret base, but many were hurt, some critically. A few are even near death.â
