Chapter 127:

Fletcher was never good at business.

He loved fishing and had always followed his passion with Brenton’s support.

Business management, however, was his weak point.

Concerned that this punishment might not satisfy Harlee, Brenton laid out the conditions to her and reassured her that if she preferred Fletcher not to return, Fletcher could remain at that minor company indefinitely.

“Don’t be so arrogant, Harlee!” Etta glared at Harlee with intense hatred.

Harlee simply looked at Etta, then turned to Kane.

“Kane.”

“Miss Sanderson, how may I help you?” Kane asked respectfully.

“Take her to the packs of pythons,” Harlee stated.

“I’m not going!” Etta yelled, believing they couldn’t force her to go.

Kane nodded and said to Harlee, “Alright. I will see to it that she is escorted to those pythons right away.”

Etta’s eyes widened in panic.

“Kane, what are you saying? I told you I’m not going.

Don’t you understand?”

But no one paid her any mind. Within seconds, several burly men in black suits appeared, showing no mercy as they pinned Etta to the floor.

Etta’s resistance melted into desperation as she began to beg.

“I know I was wrong, Harlee. No, Miss Sanderson. Please, show mercy. I can’t be near the pythons. I can’t make it out alive from taking care of those dangerous creatures!”

Her cries echoed through the hall, yet Harlee’s face showed no sign of emotion.

In the kitchen, Callie heard her daughter’s desperate screams and hurried out, attempting to pull the men off her daughter, only to be pushed to the floor herself.

Callie looked imploringly at Kane, hoping for his intervention, but he stood firm. It was then that Callie realized Harlee now held sway over the Sanderson family.

Callie hastily turned to Harlee.

“Miss Sanderson, please have mercy on Etta. She’s been hospitalized multiple times due to severe fear of snakes. I don’t think she can endure being with the pythons. She’s my only child. Please, in recognition of my long service to your family, forgive her this once!”

Surprisingly, Harlee said, “Okay.”

Hope flickered in Etta’s eyes, only to dim the moment she heard Harlee’s exasperating tone.

“Since that’s the case, let’s have Etta take care of those pythons for just one day.”

Utterly dumbfounded, Etta felt as though she might collapse on the spot. She knew it—Harlee would never let her off the hook!

Before Callie could make another appeal, Harlee’s icy voice cut in once more.

“Kane, take Etta to handle the pythons. If she objects, pack her belongings and remove her from the Sanderson estate. If my parents inquire, tell them I commanded it, and they can take it up with me!”
