Chapter 1186:
A wave of frustration washed over him.
Had it not been for his constant sweet-talking, Harlee would have already abandoned the organization. To keep her from leaving, he had taken over her responsibilities. While Interpol might manage without him, it could never do so without Harlee. Losing him meant they were down one worker.
But without Harlee, they didnât just lose a person. They lost a part of their very essence and gained a powerful, unseen enemy.
Jonathan sighed.
âFine, Iâll stay for no more than three days. Once the bounty issue is resolved, Iâm out.â
After saying this, Jonathan gazed enviously at Rhys, who was casually sipping milk through a straw. In the past, heâd lie to himself about bad timing, but now he understood that what wasnât meant to be, simply wouldnât happen.
He wasnât even qualified to play the role of a subtle matchmaker.
Rhys caught the envy in Jonathanâs glance, but before he could ponder it, Jonathan had already diverted his gaze.
Unaware of their subtle exchange, Harlee responded to Jonathanâs earlier comment.
âAlright, I have some updates too. Letâs go over them in the study later.â
âSure,â Jonathan agreed, no longer in the mood to play Cupid.
After all, it wasnât his romance to meddle in.
Rhys hesitated and then added, âIâd like to contribute some ideas as well.â
âOf course.â Harlee always welcomed Rhysâ involvement. Regardless of the planâs importance, she would discuss every aspect with him if he expressed interest.
In the study, Rhys and Harlee occupied the long sofa, while Jonathan reclined in a beanbag chair. Robbie was at the desk, sorting through data.
âBased on our previous strategy, the alliance between the Juarez and Happer families is starting to fracture. Itâs only a matter of time before they begin to weaken each other,â Robbie said, pulling up the latest data.
Harlee surveyed the data coolly, her expression hardening.
âThe real battle is just starting. Waylon wonât let the Juarez and Happer families fight for long.
Heâs bound to strike one of them first.â
For Waylon, the current tension was akin to an attack on his own strength.
He wouldnât remain passive.
Jonathan had used his authority to remove a bounty from the assassin list, a move that would likely make Waylon more alert. Waylon might even push the Juarez and Happer families to unite against Rhys.
Harlee said slowly, âKnowing Liliana, sheâll definitely use this chance to bad-mouth me to Waylon, and then cook up some false accusations against me.
By that time, Waylon will definitely associate the issue of the assassin list with me.â
âSo, whatâs your move? Are you planning to stay out of the game?â Jonathan asked.
Rhys sat there, a little confused. Though he was involved in the discussion, he found it hard to fully understand what was going on. Observing their serious and coordinated effort, he tightened his grip, steeling himself to remain focused.
âNo,â Harlee responded with a grin.
