OC POV
Dylan simply told Jason that they were going to pick up some games from Walmart and they were gone. It was easier than Justin would have thought. They both got into Dylan's car and were off. They had only been to the place once and it was for about 4 minutes.
During the ride, Justin was nervous. He kept thinking of what their Dad might say. Would he tell them that everything they heard is true? Would he deny it? Would he even tell the truth? Justin was more worried about how Lisa would react if their Dad was indeed lying.
Dylan had many questions of his own that he wanted to ask. That was part of the reason why he agreed to go with Justin. And he didn't want Justin to go by himself. Unlike Lisa, Dylan didn't trust his dad right away.
He wanted to see how often he would come over, or how much effort he would make to interact with them, before deciding that his dad was being honest about his endeavors.
The ride wasn't very long. Probably 5-10 minutes at most. Neither of the boys spoke the whole way there. Once they arrived Justin second-guessed his decision to come here in the first place. Why couldn't he have just left it up to Jason or Jacob?
Dylan and Justin both looked at the place where their Dad lived. It wasn't much of a place, to begin with. "Okay, just stay close," Dylan said getting out of the car. Justin followed suit, making sure to stay behind Dylan. They walked up to the door and Dylan knocked.
At first, there was no sound at all and Justin wondered if he was even home in the first place. Dylan knocked once more and they waited. After a couple of seconds, the door opened, but it wasn't their Dad behind it.
It was a middle-aged woman. She was petite with long dark hair and dark brown eyes. She wore a simple long t-shirt that stopped midthighs.
Dylan cleared his throat. "Um we are here to see Jonathan," he said looking at the woman. She quickly turned around and ran inside. Dylan walked in and Justin followed closely.
After about another minute there were two sets of footsteps coming down the hallway. The woman walked straight out of the house without sparing any of the boys a second glance. Justin turned his attention to Johnathan who in the least bit looked quite flustered.
"Did we interrupt something?" Dylan asked giving his father a once over. "Dylan? Justin? What are you two doing here?" he asked looking between the two. For all he knew they wanted nothing to do with him, so why did they suddenly show up at his home?
"Don't worry we won't be here for very long. We are just here to ask you a simple question," Dylan said looking around the room. Justin studied his features as Dylan spoke to him. He learned a fact during one of his late night gaming sessions.
You can tell if a man is lying just by studying his face, his actions. They will speak louder than any word. Justin was actually learning a lot from gaming. More than any of his siblings care to admit.
"We just want to know how serious you are about coming back into our lives?" Dylan asked folding his arms. Johnathan almost rolled his eyes. He didn't want to seem rude about it, but they had been asking him that question nonstop and he had given them the same answer every time.
"But before you answer that because I already know what you are going to say. I want you to know that your friend came to visit us at school. He says you owe him money. I just want to make sure we are getting the whole story here and you aren't lying to us." By the end of it, Dylan was directly in the front of Johnathan.
Justin watched as Johnathan's eyes slightly widened and he felt his heart sink a little. That kind of reaction could not be good. "I-it's not what you think it is," Jonathan started. "Then explain it to us, because right now it seems pretty clear to me," Dylan said.
Johnathan glanced at Justin almost forgetting that there was another person in the room. "Don't look at him. I am over here. Now answer the question. Do you or do you not owe this guy money?"
Johnathan opened his mouth, then closed it. Didn't make sense lying to them, he thought to himself. He sighed to himself then looked back up at Dylan. "Yes-"
"-I knew it," Justin mumbled to himself looking away from his father. "No, it's not what you think it's for. It was- it was for Lisa's bracelet." Dylan simply glared at his father. He didn' t know whether to believe him or not.
Justin turned the thought around in his head. It made sense, but part of him still didn't want to believe it. "I went to a guy and asked for some money so that I can get the bracelet for her. I told him I would pay him back in time, but he moved the date up. He wants it now, but I don't have it," Johnathan explained.
Dylan glanced at Justin not sure what to say next. "Okay, but this guy has been stalking us for weeks. This isn't the first time," Dylan said. Johnathan furrowed his eyebrows and looked between the two boys. "What? What do you mean? This isn't the first time he has spoken to you guys?"
"What do you think I just said?" Dylan retorted rolling his eyes. "I-what else did he say?" Johnathan asked. "He said we shouldn't trust you. Which honestly I am starting to believe," Dylan said.
Johnathan looked down and for a few seconds, there was an awkward silence. "When did he start telling you guys that?" Johnathan asked.
"Do you really think that's the part that matters? Someone is warning us not to trust you. You should be giving us a million reasons why we should, " Dylan exclaimed.
Justin worried that Dylan would go off and punch the old man. "You have to believe me, I am not hiding anything else from you."
"Oh really? And how should we believe that?" Dylan asked with a scoff. "You just have to. I had no idea this guy was stalking you-"
"How do you even know which guy we are talking about? We never exchanged descriptions, " Justin asked.
It was the second time he had spoken since they had come here. Dylan was surprised since he had never thought about that himself. Johnathan looked at him with a mix of emotions on his face.
"I assumed we were talking about the same guy. I only got money from one guy."
"Then describe him. "Justin said. He could feel himself getting closer and closer to something. But a bigger part of him hoped that it would be wrong.
Dylan simply watched as Johnathan looked at Justin with wide eyes. "Describe him!" Justin exclaimed. He was starting to lose his patience and Johnathan was taking too long to answer.
"He is short-"
"You're already wrong." Justin scoffed looking away from his father. Johnathan quickly stood up and Dylan stood in front of Justin.
"I'm telling the truth. I don't know anything about this other guy you are talking about. The guy I borrowed money from was short with black hair and a single tattoo under his left eye, " Johnathan said.
He wanted so desperately for them to believe him because if they didn't then he would definitely never see them or Lisa again. "Well, the guy we are talking about is tall, bald and has lots of tattoos, and he says you owe him money, " Justin said.
Jonathan's eyes widened again at the description. To Justin, it seems as if it was recognition. "This can't be?" Johnathan mumbled to himself.
He looked up to see the two looking at him in confusion. "Okay, I know who you are talking about, but I don't owe him anything I swear."
Dylan shook his head. "So you are lying again? You did borrow money from more than one person. You lied directly to my face. Honestly, I am not surprised. " Dylan was getting more mad by the second.
"Dylan! I am not lying! You have to believe me. I don't owe this guy any money!"
"Well, he seems to think so. And until you do whatever it is that you have to do, we are in danger. Lisa is in danger, " Dylan explained.
Jonathan shook his head. "Okay, I will find a way to pay it, but I don't have the money on me right now, " he said.
Dylan rolled his eyes. "I don't care whether you have the money with you or with Oprah. The point is that you lied to us and you lied to Lisa. She thinks you are this hero who came in to save our family. Well, guess what? Our family doesn't need any of your saving and until you can get your act together and not lie to our faces no matter what it is, I don't think you should come by anymore. "
Johnathan stared at Dylan with a mixture of anger, disbelief, and sadness.
"You can't do that Dylan. You can't tell me that I can't see my own children. I told you I would deal with the problem and I will. I know who this guy is and he is a very manipulative person. He will try to get you to believe that I am the bad guy but you shouldn't listen to anything he has to say. "
There was a moment of silence after Johnathan said that. Now both boys were even more confused than when they first arrived.
They came here expecting answers, but instead, they got more questions. Dylan and Justin looked at each other, not really sure what to make of the current situation.
"So why don't you just talk to him and tell him to leave us alone. He is your problem, after all, isn't he?" Dylan asked? His arms were folded across his chest and to Justin, he almost looked like Jacob whenever he was a scolding someone.
"I have a long past, Dylan. I don't want to get you guys caught up in that."
"Well, we sort of are now so..." Dylan said. Johnathan shook his head. "Just remember that he will do anything to get you not to trust me," he said. Justin glared at the ground. All of these extra unanswered questions were starting to give him a headache.
"And how can we be so sure we can trust you?" Justin asked after a minute of silence. He didn't even bother looking up at his father. He had already made up his mind about him.
"You are just going to have to."
Dylan almost laughed out loud. "That's what you are going with?" he asked with a none humorous chuckle.
"You're delusional. You belong to one of those L.M.N movies. Cause right now you fit all the roles perfectly, " Dylan said.
"Come on Justin let's go. This is an utter waste of time."
"Just wait, " Johnathan said grabbing onto Justin's hand just as they were about to leave. "Please don't tell Lisa, " he said pleadingly.
"Let. Go. Of. Him, " Dylan said with such venom in his voice it made Justin want to shrink back. Good thing Dylan loved him, otherwise, Justin would be dead by the countless of times he has annoyed Dylan.
Johnathan let go and watched with sadness as they walked down to Dylan's car. Justin spared him one last glance before he got in. Now that he thought about it, he was really hoping this meeting would not have gone down this path because now someone has to tell Lisa.

Lisa's Pov
I have been waiting for what felt like ages for Dylan and Justin to get home. I wanted so desperately to know what happens. What dad said. I started playing with the bracelet on my wrist again.
It was a constant reminder of the promise dad made to me. It was the only reason I had put so much trust in him. I don't just take promises from anyone nor do I give them to anyone. Only if I know I can go through with what I said.
I hoped Dad had the same moral standards and I have. If that's the case then I should have nothing to worry about. Yet I still find myself getting anxious.
Thinking of all the what ifs. What would it mean if Dad was lying? My brothers would never let me see him again if he was.
Throughout all of my thoughts my bedroom door opened. Jason walked in and looked at me. "What are you doing? You should be getting some sleep, " he said. He walked in and closed the door behind him.
I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "Jason it's only 8," I said looking up at him. "Oh, really? I had no clue, " he said scratching the back of his head.
I squinted at him. "Are you up to something?" I asked looking up at him. "No, no I was just checking on you, " he said smiling. "Do you need any pain medicine for your arm?"
I shook my head. It actually wasn't painful as it was just irritating. I wanted to itch it so bad, but because of the cast I couldn't. "Good, cause I didn't want you to become a druggie and take too many of them, " He said laughing.
"Oh, well I am fine. " I said smiling up at him. "Good. Well, I have to leave early again tomorrow so goodnight," he said walking over to me.
"And please, if you can help it. Try not to get a detention. I would tell Justin the same thing but it would probably go in through one ear and out the next, " he said. He bent down and kissed my forehead.
"Don't stay up too late. Or else you will become nocturnal like Jacob." I laughed along with him as he walked out of the room.
Once I heard his bedroom door shut I got out of bed and went downstairs. Jacob was still down here and he was watching tv. Although it didn't look like he was watching the tv more so just looking through it. I could see his eyes closing and then he would open it again.
I walked over and sat next to him. I should just wait here for Dylan and Justin to get back. "Why don't you just go to sleep since you are so tired?" I asked looking at him.
"I am waiting on Justin and Dylan, " he mumbled briefly glancing at me. I nodded looking back towards the tv.
"Where did they go anyway? They are taking forever," Jacob said looking at the clock on the wall. "Oh, I don't know, " I said.
I was trying not to give anything away. I knew for a fact that Jason or Jacob didn't know where Dylan and Justin had gone. And I don't know what lie they told him to cover it up.
After about 5 more minutes Justin and Dylan walked in. Both of their faces were neutral and I couldn't tell what emotion was going through them.
"Finally! Now I can go to sleep, " Jacob exclaimed getting up from the couch. He walked up to the stairs and I heard his bedroom door shut.
"So? What did he say? Is it true?" I didn't leave any room for beating around the bush. Justin looked at me then at Dylan.
I wasn't liking the lack of enthusiasm very much. "Well there is good news and bad news, " Justin said clapping his hand. I could tell he was trying to be a little light about it, but that only made me more nervous.
Dylan sat on one side of me and Justin sat on the other side of me. "We aren't sure. " Dylan said looking at me.
"What do you mean? Did you not talk to him?" I asked. What did they go there for if they came back without an answer?
"Yeah we did talk to him and it's true he does owe money, " Dylan said. I looked back down at my lap. So he was lying? I played with the bracelet on my wrist. He told me that he cut off all ties with his past and that he wanted to start fresh. Why would he lie to me about that?
I could feel Dylan and Justin mouthing something to each other, but I was too preoccupied to care. I almost felt a little betrayed.
"He had...good reason." I looked up at Dylan to make sure I heard him right. "He borrowed some money to get your bracelet that's why he owes money, " Dylan explained.
"I am guessing he didn't want to tell you because of how you might react."
I could feel the tension in the pit of my stomach start to slowly go away. I was scared that he had purposefully lie to me about something very serious.
"So that means he isn't lying to us," I said turning to Justin. "Well, there is more, " Dylan added before I could say anything else.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "What?" I asked turning my attention back to him. "He owes this money to a different guy. Not the same one that keeps stalking us, " he said.
"What?"
"Yes, so for all we know he can still be lying to us. Which is why I still want you to be careful, " Dylan said.
"Well have you considered that maybe the other guy is the one lying?" I asked looking between the two of them.
"Yeah, we have, but...knowing ours and dads history I would completely dismiss that idea, " Justin said.
I sighed and closed my eyes. Couldn't one problem just come with all the answers already? Why did everything have to be so complicated?
"Don't worry. We will figure it out. Something is bound to happen that will either reveal the truth or reveal the lie, " Dylan said resting a hand on my shoulder.
I nodded. I needed to sleep anyway. I wasn't processing information correctly and I would probably be just as confused, if not more so, tomorrow morning.
I just had one question continuously running through my head. Was Dad telling the whole truth?
