Chapter 51: ~50~ Truth or Lie?

OverprotectiveWords: 17408

I was shocked to see the weird guy. I tightened my hand around my bookbag. I tried to quickly go around him, but he stepped in the same direction.

"Oh, you startled me," he said. "I was just looking for the teacher's room. Do you know where it is?" he asked. He knew where it was. Why was he asking me? The first time I saw him at this school, was at the teacher's faculty. Now I was getting really panicked. I didn't think he would have enough guts to show up here again after the encounter with Jacob.

He knew exactly who I was, and he knew I knew who he was. "Well, I guess I can cut the act now, seeing as though you already know who I am. Kids are getting smarter these days. Anyway, don't worry after this you won't see me anymore, but I will see you. Tell Daddy dearest to pay me my money and all will be good. Don't forget to convey the message." With that, he walked off into the next direction.

What money was he talking about? And what did Dad have to do with him?" I was beyond confused. I briskly walked outside and waited for Jacob to get here. I was still on edge and kept looking around every couple of seconds to make sure he wasn't around. Whiles waiting I saw Justin and his friend walk out of the building. They were both smiling and were holding.....Mcdonald's bags?

Justin waved to his friend and walked over to me. "Are you jealous yet? Man, you should have joined the dark side. I mean we did get a super long lecture, but he was so nice about it, and he even got us Mcdonalds. Although he said if we ever did anything like that again he wouldn't be so nice." He finished taking a sip on his soda.

"He has to be like my new favorite person ever." I didn't really acknowledge anything he said as I was still focused on what just happened. "I would have saved you something, but I was starving so...."

Was Dad in something bad? I was utterly confused as to why the same guy that was following us and warning us about someone, associated with Dad. "Hello?" Justin shook me out of my thoughts and I Iooked at him.

"Jacobs here," he said motioning to the black car. "Oh," I said switching back to reality."Why are you acting weird? By now you would have yelled at me for not saving you anything." he said walking with me to the car. "Because the weird guy that keeps following us knows Dad," I said briefly glancing at him.

I took shotgun before Justin could which earned a glare from me. "Hey, delinquents," Jacob said shaking his head at us. "What is it this time, huh?" he asked looking in the rearview mirror at Justin. "Why are you looking at me?" he exclaimed.

Jacob raised an eyebrow at him. "Cause, obviously it was most likely your fault," he said. I smiled internally. At least they knew that. "It could have been, Lisas!" he said. I glared at him. "Are you really trying to go there?" I asked. He rolled his eyes and slouched back in his seat like the toddler he is.

"Whatever, Lisa has something to tell you anyway. It's way more important than this," he said. Why would he put me on the spot like that? Jacob gave me an expectant look to continue. "What? Did you get expelled?" he asked jokingly.

"No......It's a little more shocking than that," I said playing with the bracelet on my hand. "Then what is it?" he asked glancing at me. "Remember the weird guy that keeps following us?" He squinted his eyes and nodded slowly. "Yeah. Well, I ran into him after school. He told me to tell Dad to give him his money."

I could see Jacobs entire face change from a carefree one to an angry one. He looked me up and down as if assessing me. "He didn't do anything," I added quickly because Jacob looked angry.

"Son of a-" he cut himself off and resorted to gripping the steering wheel. "Did he say anything else?" he asked looking at me. "He said we wouldn't see him again, but he would see us," I mumbled.

"Did you see him, Justin?" Jacob asked. He shook his head. "Should we ask Dad?" I asked looking up at Jacob. "No. I will ask him," he said looking straight ahead. The way he said it didn't sound very good, but I decided not to question it.

We arrived home shortly and went inside. Jason was the only person home. "2nd detention already. You guys are on a role," was the first thing Jason said when we walked in. "I also got a message from your teacher. Very interesting things were said. Would you like to explain before I do?" Jason asked looking at Justin and I.

"Uum, it depends. Was it good or bad?" Justin asked trailing off. Jason gave him a deadpanned look. Justin shifted and cleared his throat. "Alright fine. It's true, but Lisa had nothing to do with it," he said almost reluctantly.

Jason nodded slowly. "Okay," he said. I looked at him in shock. I expected him to say more. "Just ok?" I asked. "No, you're grounded," Jason said looking at Justin. "But-"

"I don't want to hear it."

Jason! Come on!"

"Where?" Jason had a pleasant smirk on his face and Justin just glared at him. "Ugh, whatever," he said running up the stairs. "I think he is hitting that rebellious stage," I said shaking my head. "You too missy," he said looking at me.

"What! No, it's never my fault. I only got a detention today because I forgot to do my homework and the teacher just gave one out to Justin and I," I said. "Really?" Jason asked. I nodded. "Yeah, besides he said he never really liked us from the get-go because of Dylan, "I said sitting on the couch.

Jason nodded. "I guess that makes sense," he said. "But can you please talk to him. I don't want to keep getting detentions because he doesn't like Justin and Dylan," I said. He chuckled and ruffled my hair. "Yeah, I will talk to him," he said.

"Good, maybe he will leave us alone," I mumbled. "Is he really that bothersome?" he asked. "Yes! It's annoying," I said. I just hope after Jason talks to him he will leave us completely alone.

"Well, I am glad I am not in school," he said walking towards the kitchen. "Yeah, I wish I could just drop out sometimes," I said following him. "Don't even think about it," he said giving me a serious look.

"I know, I know," I said sitting at the counter. Jason started taking ingredients out to make something for dinner I assume. "How is your arm feeling?" he asked. I looked down at it and shrugged.

"Annoying is what if feels like. When can I get this off again?" Jason looked at me and gave me a sympathetic look. "It's only a day sooner than the last time you asked me," he said. "Not soon enough," I grumbled. "Don't worry, when it's off. You will miss it," he said.

I scrunched my face up at him. "Why would you think that?" I asked. "Becuase, you aren't going to get any more special treatment," he said. "But I thought I always got that," I fake pouted. "Yeah, I guess you're right," he said sighing.

I just watched as Jason started working his magic in the kitchen. I should probably tell him about the guy. Maybe he could figure something out. I found it very weird that he said he would see us, but we wouldn't see him.

"Something on your mind?" he asked breaking me from my thoughts. "How'd you know?" I asked. "You get a line between your eyebrows every time you are thinking about something, or something is bugging you," he said.

"Oh. Well, it's just how much do we know about this guy?" I asked.

"What guy?"

I should probably clarify. "The weird guy that keeps following us. How much do we know about him?"

"Well, we don't know much. We don't even know his name. Why?" he asked now giving me his full attention. I fiddled with the bracelet on my risk. It was a new anxious act of mine. One I had adapted to without even knowing it.

"I saw him after detention today. He said Dad owed him money. Do you believe it?" I asked looking up at him. Jason shook his head and ran a hand through his hair. "Wait, what? He talked to you?" he asked.

I nodded looking back down at the bracelet. "Yeah." He looked a little angry, just as Jacob did.

"Lisa, that should have been the first thing you told me," he said looking at me. "I know, but I already told Jacob. He said he would ask Dad about it." Jason nodded. "Okay. I'm sorry. I am not mad at you," he said walking over to me.

"I know."

"Good. We'll figure it out," he said kissing my forehead. "Yeah, but do you think what he says about Dad is true?" I asked. Jason looked at me for a moment before walking back towards the fridge.

"It better not be."

"Lisa!" Justin barged into my room looking like the happiest person in the world. "Justin, can you please act like a normal human and KNOCK ON THE DOOR," I said looking at him. He rolled his eyes and closed the door behind him.

"Whatever, that's not important right now. I think I just figured something out," he said making himself comfortable on my bed. "Sure just come on my bed why don't you," I said glaring at him. He was interrupting my quiet time.

"Shh. Stop talking. Okay. So do you remember what the weird guy kept repeating the first couple of times we saw him?" he asked looking at me. I nodded. "Yeah, he kept referring to someone that we shouldn't trust," I said.

"Exactly, and who is it that has been coming around more often?"

I stared at him trying to figure out where he was going with this. "Think, Lisa. You are literally wearing his bracelet," he said gesturing to the jewelry on my wrist. "Dad?" I asked looking back up at him.  "Yes, and what did that guy at school tell you again?"

"Where are you going with this?" I asked although I had a clue. "I am saying what if that guy was talking about Dad? What if it's Dad we shouldn't trust?" he asked.

I wanted to be sure I hadn't heard him right. "What do you mean? Do you think Dad is hiding something from us? You think we shouldn't trust him?" I asked. "I didn't say that. I am just saying. It's too much of a coincidence. I mean, who else could he have been talking about?" he asked.

I thought about it for a moment, then shook my head. "No, Justin. Dad promised that he wasn't hiding anything. He said he wanted to start fresh, why don't you believe him?"

"Because we don't know him. We barely know anything about him. Why are you trusting him so easily?"

"Why won't you try to get to know him?"

"Becuase we don't need him, Lisa!... We don't need him in our lives." I looked down at the bracelet that was given to me. The promise that was made. I refuse to think that it's a lie. He wouldn't go this extent to get close to us, just to lie to us.

"That's not true, Justin," I whispered. I could feel myself close to tears. "We do need him. Just as much as he needs us. You just won't admit it."

Neither of us said another word after that. I looked up at him to see him looking at the floor intensely.

He sighed frustratedly. "Will you at least think about it? It's definitely a possibility, right?" he asked looking at me. I didn't want it to be, but he did make a point. A very small point. "Maybe, but I doubt it, "I said.

"Maybe is good enough," he said with a certain spark in his eye. He sat Indian style in front of me. "Ok I am going to convince Dylan to let me see him," he said. My eyes widened at his absurd idea.

"There are so many things wrong with what you just said. First of all what makes you think Dylan will agree to this? Second of all, Jason will find out? Third of all, What are you going to do?" I asked.

"I swear sometimes you are so simple-minded," he mumbled. I slapped his head, glaring at him. "Sorry, what I meant was, isn't it obvious? I am going to ask him about the money," he said rubbing the spot where I hit him.

I just stared at him waiting for some stupid remark. "You're serious?" I asked. "Yes. I am going to see if he is being truthful."

"And if he is."

He was quiet for a while, looking off into space. "Then, I guess I will stop pushing him away," he said. I almost smiled at the sound of that. "Well, then I should come," I said already getting off the bed.

"No, I will go with Dylan," he said. "Well, why can't I come?" I asked. "You have a whole cast on. Why would you want to come?" he asked giving me a quizzical look. I rolled my eyes. "It doesn't matter. I want to be there too," I said. I was getting a little agitated that he didn't want me to come.

"No, it will be too sus if all of us go."

"What is sus supposed to mean?" I asked. I have never heard him use that word before.

"Suspicious. It will be too suspicious. And I thought you were supposed to be the social one." he said shaking his head. "What do you mean? I have more friends than you," I said glaring at him.

"Then why didn't you know what that meant?"

"I have just never heard you use it, that's why, but I know what it means," I said. Secretly I didn't, but I couldn't admit that to him. He would use it against me for days.

"Yeah ok," he said smirking at me. "Anyway, we are getting off of the topic at hand. I want to come with you guys."

"Lisa, I am sorry, but Dylan will probably say the same thing. We will tell you what we find out when we come back," he said already starting to leave. It's like he thinks he is going to end the conversation just like that.

The sad thing is, he actually did cause he shut the door and locked it before I could get to the door. I huffed and turned back to my bed. I was too tired for this anyway. I plopped onto my bed and thought of the one question I didn't think I would have to think about again since he gave me the promise bracelet. Could I trust Dad?

~Overprotective~

OC POV

It took Dylan about 2 more hours to get home since Justin left Lisa's room. She must have been really tired cause she fell asleep not too long after he left. Once Dylan was in his room Justin barged in without knocking as he always does.

"My god Justin! Why do you just barge in like that?" Dylan asked his younger brother. No matter how many times he told him off for that, he did it anyway. "Don't worry, I do it to everyone you aren't special," Justin replied shutting the door behind him.. "What do you want?" Dylan asked completely disregarding Justin's previous comment.

Justin looked around the room before sitting on the surprisingly clean floor."Why does your room look so.....clean?" he asked with confusion. Dylan's room is never clean. Unless Jason forces him to clean it every once in a while.

"It's none of your business 21 questions. Now, what do you want?" Dylan asked already getting annoyed. "It was just one question," Justin mumbled before deciding to get to the task at hand.

"Anyway, I need you to do something with me, and you can't say no," Justin said looking up at him. Dylan furrowed his eyebrows and turned his phone off. "What?" he asked cautiously. Justin thought of a good way to word his sentence or else Dylan wouldn't go along with it.

"I am going by Dad to ask him something."Justin looked at his older brothers face to gauge his reaction and it didn't look like it was going in the right direction. "Before you say anything, I want you to know that I am going whether you agree or not," he continued before Dylan could say anything.

Dylan closed his mouth and just looked at him. His little brother was never serious. Everything was always a joke or a prank. Which led him to believe this was exactly that. Then he burst out laughing. "Don't be stupid Justin," he said going back on his phone.

"What do you mean?" Justin asked with confusion laced across his face. "Come on. I know this is probably another one of your dumb pranks. I am not falling for it."

"This isn't a prank."

"Sure it isn't."

"I am being serious, Dylan. The same guy that has been stalking us spoke to Lisa and told her to tell Dad that he owes money. She doesn't believe it's true. I am going to ask him if it is or not so that we can know if he is lying to us." Justin explained. He hoped Dylan would listen to him now.

Dylan put his phone down and turned his full attention to Justin. "So you do care," he said looking at him. "No, I don't. I am doing this because Lisa has basically put her full trust in him and for all, we know he could be lying to her," Justin replied.

He refused to admit to anyone that he did indeed, care whether his father was lying to him or not. Sure he didn't show that he cared at all, but the smallest growing part of him wanted his Dad to stay around.

He wanted to believe what Lisa believed in their Dad, but after what happened Justin didn't put trust in many people very easily. Dylan knew this. He knew his little brother had trouble trusting people. So he knew getting him to admit that he cared would not be easy.

Heck, he was pretty much the same way.

"Okay, but who is telling Jason?" Dylan asked. Jason most definitely would not let them go. "I was hoping you would come up with that," Justin said scratching the back of his head. "Oh, I see. I am just the getaway driver," Dylan replied shaking his head. Justin only shrugged in response.

Dylan threw on a sweatshirt and stood up. "Alright then let's go."
