Chapter 49: ~48~ Safe

OverprotectiveWords: 15296

I gaped at the sight ahead of me. How was it possible that Sally's family was right ahead of us? Was I dreaming? Did I pass out or something? "Mr. and Mrs. Williams?" Jason asked. I just sat on the chair looking up at them. I refused to get up because I didn't trust my legs. "Is our Sally here?" Sally's mom asked. "We were told she was spending some time here?

How were they actually here?

They all looked fine. It didn't look as if a hair on their head was touched. Little Bonnie was playing with a Barbie doll. She didn't seem the least bit alarmed or scared. They all looked fine.

"Are you guys okay?" Jason asked walking towards them. Sally's mother gave him a confused look. "Why wouldn't we be okay? We got this nice offer to a beautiful resort. I forgot the name of the nice lady. I think it was-"

"Veronica?" Jason interrupted.

"Yes! That's her. Such a nice lady she was. Anyway. I assumed Sally would have told you. Veronica said Sally would have rather stayed with Lisa than go with us. I was a little sad, but we had lots of fun. Bonnie loved it especially," She finished, smiling at Bonnie.

"So you guys weren't in danger or anything?" Jason asked. Sally's dad placed a hand on his shoulder. "Son, what are you talking about?" Jason nodded slowly and mumbled something. "Okay. Uum Sally is in the guest room." He gave Jacob a look and they both walked out of the living room.

"What in the world is going on?" Dylan said aloud. "I thought she said her parents might be dead," Justin said. I didn't even see when he got down here. I sighed of relief when the thought finally hit. Sally's family was safe. That was one less thing I had to worry about, but now there was something extra. How are they here? I thought they were in danger.

Sally made it seem like they were already dead. Dads eyebrows were furrowed in confusion. I imagine he was as confused as I was. I could hear Sally crying from here. I imagine her parents would also be very confused as to why she looked the way she did. There was a lot of explaining to do on both sides.

I decided to leave Sally with her family for a little while. She thought she would never see them again and now, here they are. "I am assuming that is her family?" Dad asked. I nodded. This would be the first time he has seen them.

"Yeah. I can't believe they just waltz in here, unharmed," I said looking towards the direction Sally's family just went. I am really happy they are here, but there had to be more to it. I know my mother. This can't be the end of it.

"So this was Veronicas doing?" he asked. I nodded. "Yeah, I just don't understand. This isn't making any sense," I said. "At least she has her family back," Justin said. I nodded. For now, I decided to forget about the whole thing. Sally has her family back and that is all that matters.

"So what now? Is she going to get away with it?" Justin asked. "She can't get away with this too," I mumbled. Mom has gotten away with too much already. Dad looked at me with a sad look. "You're right. She can't get away with this too." Dad said.

"What do you care?" Justin asked looking at him. Dylan rolled his eyes. "Give it a break, Justin." I widened my eyes at what Dylan just said. He was defending Dad? "What does that mean? Are you falling for his tricks too? Cause I am not," Justin retorted folding his arms and glaring at him. "I am not falling for his tricks, I am just saying."

Justin was about to say something when I interrupted him. "Can you please stop?" I asked looking at him. He looked at me and sighed then went upstairs. Dylan was about to follow when Dad stopped him. "Just...give him some time," he said looking at Dylan.

Dylan nodded and sat back down. Why was everything getting so stressful? I just need at least one relaxing day. I sighed and laid my head on Dylan's lap. "This is so frustrating," I groaned out closing my eyes. I felt him start to run his hands through my hair. "I know." Dylan held onto my wrist suddenly.

"What's this?" he asked. I sat up. "It's a bracelet. Dad gave it to me," I said looking back to smile at Dad. Dylan nodded slowly. "I see," he mumbled. "Isn't it pretty? It's a promise bracelet," I said playing with the jewels.

"Yeah, It looks great on you," he said smiling at me. "Uuh, can you get my phone from my room, please?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why? Get it yourself," I said laying my head back on his lap."I would push you off right now if you weren't wearing a cast," he said smirking down at me. I rolled my eyes and got up.

"Fine, but you owe me" I shouted running up the stairs. "Please don't run up the stairs Lisa, You can trip and I don't think you want another cast," Jacob said walking past me. I shook my head and continued to Dylan's room.

As always it was a mess, but it wasn't as dirty as usual. I guess he was still trying to keep it on the nice side for Eva. I found his phone on his bed just as a text popped up. 'Love you too babe'. The response was from Eva.

They were honestly so cute. I am happy Dylan found someone that could hopefully keep him from being a class A jerk.

When I got back downstairs, I barely heard the last part of Dylans conversation. "For your sake, you better keep your promise." I walked back into the living room and gave Dylan a weird look. "Um, here is your phone," I said handing him it. "Oh and Eva said she loves you too," I said smirking at him. He snatched his phone.

"You're so nosy," he said walking towards the kitchen. "So are you!"

"How so?"

"All of you. You are always looking through my phone," I said sitting on the stool. "Well that's because we want to make sure you aren't texting anyone you shouldn't," he said walking back into the living room.

"But it's not fair," I whined. "Aww, that's too bad," he said pinching my cheek. "No one ever checks Justin's phone, and he is only 1 year older than me," I said. "Yeah, we do. We just check yours more," he said. "Besides, Justin is dating his videogames. I don't think he is trying to date a human anytime soon."

"You were basically the same way," I said. He waved his hand in my face. "Yadda, yadda. Stop talking. You are giving me a headache," he said going on his phone. I rolled my eyes and walked back into the kitchen.

I was hungry and it didn't seem like anyone was cooking. I saw Jacob walk out of the guest room. "What's going on?" I asked. "Well, to say they were confused is an understatement, but I explained everything to them and by the end of it they were very worried. They didn't come in contact with Veronica much so they don't have anything to say about where she could be or anything."

I nodded taking in the information. "So we don't have a clue where she is, or what she is going to do next?" I asked. Jacob shook his head, a small frown forming on his face. I sat next to him on the stool. "Dad said he would help. Maybe he can get in touch with someone or something," I said.

"He actually said he would help?" Jacob asked looking at me. I nodded. "He also promised to always help us, whenever we may need it. He seemed really genuine."

"Wow, I am impressed," Jacob mumbled. "I really think this is going to work out, Jacob," I said looking up at him. He smiled down at me and nodded. "I hope so."

Half an hour later and Sally's family were about to leave. Since knowing what just happened, Sallys Dad decided that they should stay at a hotel for a little while. Jason agreed since they both didn't think it was safe for them to head back to their home. We had no clue what game my mom was playing and it was better safe than sorry.

In the time being Sally and I hadn't talked once. I had hoped that since her family is back she would talk to me, but she still seemed distant. I didn't know when I would see her next, or how long her family would be gone.

I wanted to talk to her but didn't at the same time. "Bye Lisa." I turned around to see Bonnie waving at me. She was still holding that Barbie doll in her arms. She was the cutest little thing and it made me sad to think of the fact that she was in danger without even knowing it.

I bent down to her level to give her a hug. "Bye, Bonnie. I will miss you," I said kissing her cheek. "Me too. Can I sign your cast before I leave?" she asked looking up at me with those big beautiful brown eyes.

"Of course," I said standing up. I got a black sharpie and gave it to her. She signed a big heart and wrote her name in the middle. "Thank you, Bonnie," I said smiling at the cute drawing. She giggled at it and gave the sharpie back to me.

"It looks like a butt," she said still giggling. I laughed a little after looking at it for a while. "Well, I think it looks perfect," I said. "Just like you," she said looking at me. I blushed and smiled. "Stop it, Bonnie. You are obviously the most perfect one here," I said.

She rolled her eyes. "No, my cheeks are too big," she said. "Oh," I said looking at her. Society has already gotten to her. "Come on, enough of that. I think your parents are calling you," I said leading her to outside.

When we got outside, Sallys and her parents were already in the car. Bonnie got in and they waved us goodbye. Just as they were about to back out, Sally got out. I looked at her with wide eyes as she came up the steps and hugged me.

"I'm sorry, for treating you the way I did. I hope you can forgive me." and with that, she went back down and into the car. They drove off and I went back inside. "Are they gone yet," Justin asked from the hallway.

I raised an eyebrow at him. "Yeah...." I said slowly. "Ok good. Bonnie kept asking me to play Barbies with her," he said walking out. "Well don't you do that anyway?" I asked looking at him. He glared at me and shook his head. "For the last time! They are called action figures," he exclaimed.

"Is there really much of a difference?" I asked looking up at him. "I am sure you should know."

"I don't play with barbies," I retorted. "Yeah, okay Lisa," he replied. "I don't! You guys keep bringing it up."

"Probably because it's true."

"If you keep saying that, I am going to break your x-box," I said smirking up at him. "And, I will break your other arm," he said. I couldn't tell if he was serious or not. I decided to just leave it at that.

We entered into the living room to see only Dad. "Ugh, he is still here?" Justin asked rolling his eyes. I ignored him and sat next to Dad. "What an eventful evening," he said. I let out a small chuckle. "You can say that," I said.

"I just want to thank you again for the bracelet, Dad. I really love it," I said looking up at him. "You don't have to thank me, Lisa. Like I said. You deserve it," he said. "And besides, I have been meaning to give that to you for a while now, so..."

Justin scoffed and left the living room. I looked at Dad to see the sadness in his eyes. "He will come around.....I know he will," I said. I swear I saw a glint of tears, but they never fell. He gave me a small smile. "Yeah, I hope," he replied.

Everyone will come around eventually.

I knocked on Jason's bedroom door at 3 in the morning. I was having trouble sleeping because I kept thinking about my mom. What she might do, why she did what she did. The thoughts were endless and they were keeping me up on a school night.

I was about to knock again when the door opened revealing Jason. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and looked down at my blanket-wrapped body. "Lisa?... Why are you up? What's wrong?" he asked opening the door wider for me to come in.

I walked in and made myself comfortable on his bed. "Okay," he laughed out. "I couldn't sleep," I said once he got under the covers.

"What's on your mind?" he asked turning around to face me. I bit my lip. Should I tell him? I mean why wouldn't I? I sighed. "I just keep thinking about the whole situation. What could have happened and....." I trailed off. Not really knowing what else to say.

"You're thinking what if her family never came back," he finished off my thought. I nodded. "I can't help it. Its been keeping me up all night," I said. He suddenly sat up and turned on his lamp light. It took a little for my eyes to adjust to the sudden light.

He motioned for me to sit next to him, which I did. I cuddled under his warmth. "You know I use to have similar thoughts," he started. "Not about Sallys Family, but about you and Justin." I furrowed my eyebrows I never knew this. I waited for him to continue, which he did.

"I would sometimes think what if one of Moms abusing went too far? What if we didn't stop her in time? Would you guys be who you are today.....Would you be here today?" That last one really struck me. I have never thought about that.

Jason started to massage my scalp, which was always satisfying for me. "I know how it is, constantly thinking of what could have happened. It can drive you crazy. It almost drove me crazy. If it weren't for Jacob, I just might be in a mental institution or prison right now."

"So instead of letting that control me, I use it to fuel me. That keeps me driving to want to put Veronica behind bars for life and anyone associated with her. I can't lose you guys. Just how I know you can't lose Sally. I know she means a lot to you. So don't let the thoughts of what could have happened to consume you. Just think about how things turned out. She got her family back and that's all that matters right now. Okay?"

I nodded, not trusting my voice. I had no idea Jason use to have those thoughts. I had them for one night and I was already freaking out. Who knows how long he has had them? I leaned my head against his chest listening to his heartbeat which was also very relaxing.

"Thanks, Jason. By the way, you are the best brother ever," I mumbled, already feeling sleep start to overtake me. He chuckled. "Of course I am," he said kissing my forehead. "Alright, looks like you are ready for sleep," he said turning the light off.

We got comfortable under the covers again. I still had to be mindful of the stupid cast on my arm. That was going to be a constant reminder of what happened for a while. Jason draped his arm over my shoulder. "Goodnight, Love you," he said kissing my forehead.

"Love you too."
