Our Aunt finished sharing out some small gifts she got for us. She got me a bracelet that had the letter A on it which I assumed was for the first letter in my name. Everyone else got their gifts which honestly wasn't that interesting.
I'm sorry if I sound a little bratty but I was definitely not in the mood. I was mostly trying to restrain myself from strangling my cousin, and I didn't get much sleep. The only thing that kept me going was the thought that if I didn't strangle her I would be able to get ice cream tonight.
"Lisa, do you mind coming with me?" Aunt Milly asked bringing me back to reality. I nodded and got up to follow her. We went into my room and she closed the door.
"So, let's talk," she said. I gave her a strange look and then nodded slowly. "Okay, about what?" I asked sitting on my bed. "Well, how have you been, what's been going on? How are your brothers treating you?" She asked.
"Everything is going great. My brothers are well," I said nodding. I am definitely not the social type if you couldn't tell. "We went to the theatre yesterday," I mentioned. "That's nice," she commented.
I don't know what she expected me to say. It was really awkward. I only see her about 3 times a year. However, her kids came more often, unfortunately. "Ok. Do you have any boyfriends?" I shifted uncomfortably. "No."
"What!? but you are so beautiful, how do you not have a boyfriend?"
"I'm 13."
"Oh age is just a number," She said waving her hand and laughing. I forced a smile to make her feel better. "Yeah." Cue the awkward silence. "Well, I am glad you are doing fine. I know it has been kinda tough on you guys," she said.
"It's fine." I didn't want her to feel guilty or anything. My mom's actions had nothing to do with her, and she has always helped us as much as she could. It was just awkward whenever we spoke. She nodded and then left.
Thank goodness. I left after her and went downstairs. Only Justin and Ashley were downstairs and they were both on their phones. Everyone else was outside chatting it up. I sat next to Justin and watched him play a game on his phone.
Jason still had mine. He said I can get it back tomorrow after I basically begged him for it. "Can I try?" I asked. He gave me his phone and I began playing. During my gameplay, the phone was snatched out of my hand by someone above me.
"Hey!" I shouted turning around to find the culprit. And of course, it had to be Derek and Dylan. Life just hated me at the moment. No scotch that, I live with Dylan, so life hated me all the time.
"I was playing on that," I exclaimed. "When did she get a phone?" Derek asked Dylan, dangling the phone out of my reach. "That's not even her phone, its mine!" Justin shouted."Even better," Derek smirked. "I have a game we can play," Dylan started. Justin threw his head back with a groan. "Dylan, stop being a jerk and give me my phone."Dylan thought about it for a second.
"Nah." Then Derek threw the phone to Dylan who barely caught it. Dylan ran down the hallway and threw it to Derek who was across the room."Hey!" Justin ran to get his phone. As much as I would love to help him-not-I think I will sit this one out.
I huffed as they took the only thing that kept me from dying of boredness. You know on second thought, I am not going to sit this one out. They were simply that irritating that letting them have that satisfaction was now out of the question.
I got up and trudged to where they were still throwing Justin's phone around. "Hey, glad you came to join us," Derek exclaimed as he caught Justin's phone just in time before it fell. "Give him his phone back."
I didn't know exactly what I was going to do after that. Being bored must have driven me to insanity. "What was that?"My eyes widened in fear. Why couldn't I have just stayed downstairs? I cleared my throat." I said, give him the phone. We were playing on it."
Cue the silence. Then Derek and Dylan both burst out laughing. Even Justin almost started to laugh. "Hey! you can't laugh I am trying to help you," I said which made them all laugh even harder. I crossed my arms and huffed as they all continued to laugh.
"Are you guys done yet?"
"Hold on, give me a sec," Dylan said as he tried to catch his breath. "Aww, you are so adorable, trying to act tough and all. So cute." Derek commented ruffling my hair. I swatted his hand away while I glaring at him but to him, I probably looked like a toddler who wasn't allowed dessert before dinner.
I just had to keep a good behavior and we can get ice cream tonight, but oh how badly I wanted to kick him where the sun doesn't shine. All of them. "I'm not cute," I said glaring at Derek.
"Your right. You are adorably cute."
Cue the laughter again. I went outside and sat on one of the lawn chairs. Auntie and Jacob were talking while Mark helped Jason with the grill. I don't know why since Auntie brought so much food already. I watched as he flipped the burger meat on the grill.
Now I am really hungry. My mouth watered at the sight of food as my stomach started to grumble. "JASON!" All of our heads snapped towards the sound of the shout. Justin came outside looking as mad as ever.
"What is it?"
"Derek and Dylan broke my phone." I almost burst out laughing. Almost. I still wanted ice cream though. Jason gave Derek and Dylan both an incredulous look.
"What for?"
"It was an accident," Derek said raising his hands.
"Yeah."
"No it wasn't, you chucked it across the room on purpose," Justin shouted. Dylan glared at him as if to tell him to be quiet. Jason rubbed his face as I could tell he was getting irritated.
I jumped up. "Don't worry about it Jason, I got it taken care of," I said as I grabbed both Derek and Dylan back into the house. It took quite an effort since they were both so tall."You guys, stop being a nuisance."
"I could never," Dylan said in mock hurt. I rolled my eyes. "It wasn't even your phone," Dylan said. I glared up at him. Like I literally had to look up to glare at him. "Yeah, but still, you are annoying." Dylan turned to look at Derek.
"I don't know. Do you think we are annoying?" Dylan asked.
"No not at all," he replied. They both looked at me with evil smirks on their faces. I knew exactly what they were gonna do. Stupid idiots. I didn't even have time to blink as Dylan picked me up and slung me over his shoulder.
"No, leave me alone!" I shouted as they carried me into my room. Dylan threw me on my bed and they both started to tickle me. I laughed- something I didn't want to do because I was still annoyed with them- and screamed for them to stop.
Then my door opened and in walked Riley and Ashley. Saved by the witches in disguise."There you guys are. Lunch is ready," Riley said, yet she was glaring at me the entire time. Ashely simply rolled her eyes at her sister's actions.
"Good cause I was starving," Derek said as he left the room. Dylan noticed and looked between us two. "Okay, then let's eat," he said. He picked me up and threw me over his shoulder. "Dylan, I know you have enough brain cells to know I can still walk."
"I know." We arrived outside, where I guess we were going to eat. Dylan put me down and I sat next to Jacob who was on his phone. Auntie sure did bring a lot. They were burgers, fries, chicken, pie, cake, and all sorts of other things.
I decided to just get the burger and fries. For now. As I was getting some Riley came up to me. What does this little witch want now? "You know, you probably shouldn't eat so much. You are gonna get fat."
I rolled my eyes. Just ignore her, just ignore her. I continued to make my plate, making sure to add extra fries just to tick her off. "Didn't you hear me? You are going to be too fat. Everyone at school is going to make fun of you. They probably already do," she said smirking.
I stopped what I was doing and turned around to face her. Luckily we were around the same height, so I didn't have to crane my neck to look at her. "Listen, Riley. I know you have nothing better to do than to spend your time swooning over me, but its really getting old."
"Excuse me?"
"I don't remember stuttering. Never thought I had that problem."
"You are lucky your brothers are here, or else-"
"Or else what? You are going to knock me out with your 100lbs of makeup?"
She glared at me as I smirked. Hey, I said I wasn't going to get violent. Last I checked I wasn't. She then 'accidentally' stepped on my foot and walked away. Keep calm, keep calm. I was not going to give her any satisfaction.
I continued to get my food and sat in between a brooding Justin and Jacob. "Someone has to buy me a new phone," he kept repeating. "Don't worry I am sure you will get a new one soon," I said taking a bite out of my burger. "Yeah, well it better come from Dylan or Derek." He was obviously still ticked about that.
I wanted to feel some sympathy for him, I really did, but I couldn't.
"Well, maybe if you helped me when I tried to help you, you wouldn't be in this mess," I said looking at him. "What! So this is my fault?"
"Kinda, yeah."
He glared at me and huffed. "Whatever." Causing both Jacob and I to laugh. By the time we were done eating it was only 1:30. Great, we still have the whole day ahead of us. I groaned out as I thought about the next 6 possibly 7 hours with Derek and the 'others', meaning the twins. I wish only Mark would visit instead of the others.
"Aww, why you so sad?" I looked up and saw the devil himself. "Leave me alone," I groaned out. "No can do. I have way to much fun watching you in anguish."
"I am not in anguish, I am simply annoyed."
"Whatever you want to call it."
"Don't you have something better to do?"
"I am doing it," he said as he sat next to me.
"So are you ready for school? It's in about a day," he said making himself comfortable on the couch IÂ was sitting on. "It's in two actually, and no I am not ready." "I like sleeping in, and doing whatever I want without having to get someones permission first," I said.
That only made him chuckle. "Well, its the way of life," he said smirking. "Wow, for a second I thought you actually cared," I said looking at him. "Deep, deep, deep down somewhere, maybe I do, I don't know," he said.
"How wouldn't you know?"
"I don't know." I gave him a puzzled look. "Geesh, is this what hanging around you does to people. You are annoying," he said as if it's his first revelation. "Welcome to my world," Dylan said from behind the couch.
I rolled my eyes. "If it provides any consolation, my being annoying runs purely on you guys being jerks," I said smiling innocently. Derek pursed his lips. "I am not a jerk," he said. I raised my eyebrows. "I am a sexy jerk, get it right." "All that testosterone is getting to your head," I said." I think I need to get away from all of this," I said gesturing to Dylan and Derek.
"Well, where are you going?" Dylan asked taking my spot on the couch.
"I am going on a walk." It wasn't too bad out and it was still light out so it would be the perfect time to. "Do you have to go now?" Dylan groaned out. I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "Uum, I didn't ask you to come."
"So, I still have to," he said as he ran his hands through his hair. "Why?"
"Because, I can't let you go alone," he said as if it was the most obvious thing to mankind. "And Jason would kill me if I let you go alone." "Then I will go with Justin."
"Nah, its fine let's go," he said standing up. I smirked at him. I knew he wouldn't want Justin to go with me because that would be just as bad as me going by myself apparently. I didn't mind though.
We got ready apparently Derek wanted to tag along. We went outside and started to walk. The point of this was to get away from them, yet here I am. "Can't I just walk alone, in peace?" Dylan glared at me after I said that. I rolled my eyes and continued walking making sure to stay ahead of them.
"Oh come on, don't be like that," Derek said slinging an arm around my shoulder. I tried to shrug it off but to no avail. "Yeah, look how beautiful it is outside. You are ruining it," Dylan added.
"It would be better if you both disappeared," I mumbled, but of course someone else had to hear.
"I'm honestly hurt you would say that, Lisa," Derek exclaimed. "Do you treat everyone like that?" "No, just anyone that is insufferably annoying, ie, you." Dylan was just walking alongside us on his phone, barely paying attention to the conversation.
"You know, one day you are gonna remember me and you're gonna say, 'what a wonderful person Derek was. I can't believe I treated him so badly, even though he was my cousin and you are going to be........"I kinda zoned him out after that.
I kept trying to walk ahead of them, so I wouldn't have to hear them. Just keep thinking about the ice cream, I kept reminding myself. Soon enough they will all be gone and you will be able to enjoy ice cream in peace with only your brothers.
That obviously wasn't going to happen since I spotted Grayson running down the street. He didn't have a shirt on and had sweats with earphones in. He looked like he was going for a jog. Most likely coming to our house.
He stopped when he saw us walking down the street. "You guys must miss me so much you are following me," He said as he stopped in front of us. "What do you mean we are following you? You are the one coming towards us!" I exclaimed.
"Details," he said waving his hand. "Derek, long time no see," he said giving Derek a bro hug. "So I am just the meat on the side of the road?" Dylan asked feigning a hurt expression. "No, you are the chewed up piece of gum under the desk," Grayson replied. "And I just texted you 5 minutes ago." Dylan rolled his eyes.
We all started walking again, this time Grayson tagging along. "Spicy. Good to see you as always," he said smirking at me. I rolled my eyes glaring at him. He just had to tag along huh? Couldn't he have just continued running like he didn't see us?
"She is in a bad mood. I'm sure its nothing new though," Derek said to Grayson. Why do they all have to be so annoying? "I can put you in a good mood," Grayson said smirking at me and slinging a sweaty arm over my shoulder. Does he ever smile? I don't think so.
"Watch it," Dylan warned without looking up from his phone. "OK, maybe next time," he said winking at me. We continued walking until we got to the cafe. It was about 5 minutes by car and took us about 15 minutes since the boys were being idiots as usual.
"Grayson, you do realize you just walked into a cafe without a shirt on right?" I questioned. Grayson looked down as if noticing he didn't have a shirt on this entire time then looked back up at me smirking. That little-
"Why? Are you jealous other girls are gonna look at my beautiful abs?"
"As if? You need to get over your narcissistic self. People are trying to eat not look at you as if you were some sort of eye candy." He continued smirking totally disregarding what I just said. I rolled my eyes and took a seat in the booth next to Dylan.
I really wish I had my phone, it would save me from having to talk to these idiots. "Who is going to order?" Derek asked once we were situated. All of the boys shouted 'not it' at the same time, leaving me as the last person.
"Hey! That's not fair. You guys planned that" I exclaimed. "Life isn't fair, now go order our food," Dylan said smirking at me. "Its because I am the only girl here, isn't it? You guys are just a bunch of sexist who have not-"
"Okay, okay I will go and get it," Dylan said as I was drawing some attention to our table. "No, I will get it," I said. The deed has already been done. They are only doing it because they were just exposed.
I walked up to the counter where I saw Liam. I immediately smiled remembering our little moment in the car the other night. "Hey blue," he said smiling at me. I smiled back at him. I remembered I still had a 'date' to make up to him.
I placed everyone's order including mine which was the usual triple chocolate muffin. "Will that be all?" he asked with a dazzling smile. I nodded blushing a little. Curse this blush. "So, if I remember correctly you owe me a night at the cafe," he said.
"Yeah, I know I am grounded till tomorrow. But after that, we can definitely plan something." He nodded at that. "Okay. I will be waiting." I flashed him one more smile as I went back to the booth. Grayson cast me one look before looking to where I just came from.
What is he a detective? "Why are you blushing?" he asked with a frown. This made everyone else at the table look up. I glared at him, but he seemed unfazed. "What are you talking about?" I asked playing dumb. Everyone knew it. "Did you do something stupid again? I swear it's like your legacy," Dylan said mumbling the last part to himself.
Derek looked towards the counter as well. Come on, now is not the time to get overprotective. I had to save myself fast. "Fine, I said something stupid and he laughed at me, that's all," I said. Grayson didn't seem to believe it though as he still stared at me with a blank face.
Derek rolled his eyes. "You guys actually think someone might be interested in her. She looks like a toddler," he said laughing at his own 'joke'. "Hey! I do not look like a toddler. I am going to be 14 in a month."
"So? That only means you will be a 14-year-old toddler."
"That makes no sense at all."
"Sure it does."
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever." After a couple of minutes. Liam came with our orders. Smiling at me as he gave me my muffin. "Will that be all?" he asked. "Yes," Grayson said maybe a little too harshly. Liam nodded and then left.
"Is that all you ever eat when you come here?" Derek asked sipping his strawberry mocha. I nodded enjoying the tastiness of the chocolaty goodness. Maybe them coming with me wasn't such a bad idea and to top it off I am gonna get ice cream later tonight.
Today maybe won't be such a bad day after all. We finished our treats in about 10 minutes making small talk the entire time. "We should probably head back," Dylan said checking his phone which read 1:55 pm.
No, I didn't want to go back home to the rest of the cousins. We got up and headed out, but not before a not so subtle wink from Liam. Thankfully none of the others saw.
As we left the cafe I looked over and saw the last thing I thought I would see. Sally, my ex-best friend, sat on a bench outside of the cafe crying? She didn't look great with her tear-streaked face she was trying to hide.
I wanted to go over there and ask her what was wrong, but I was conflicted. In my eyes, she was still my best friend, just now we don't talk. At the same time though she really hurt me by what she said. I still didn't know why she didn't want to be my friend. "Lisa, are you just going to stand there?" Dylan asked. I snapped out of my thoughts.
As much as I didn't want to talk to her no one should have to sit outside alone, crying. I tugged on Dylan's shirt to stop him as the others went ahead. "What?" he asked looking down at me.
I nodded towards Sally who still sat on the bench crying. Dylan looked over his eyes hardening for a moment before looking back at me. "I should help her," I said. "What are you guys doing?" Grayson shouted from where they were standing.
"One minute," Dylan shouted back. "I can't just leave her there," I said. "Yes, you can." He sighed running his hands through his hair. "Okay, we will wait, " he said after a moment. I knew there would be no arguing so I nodded then made my was over to Sally.
I all of a sudden got really nervous once I got near her. What exactly was I going to say? I had no idea. I hadn't spoken to her in a long time. I looked back over to see the other boys on their phones standing near Dylan who was watching me. You could say he didn't like her very much after what she did.
I sat next to her but I don't think she noticed. I put a hand on her shoulder to let her know I was here. She jumped up and looked at me with wide eyes. "Lisa!?"
"Hey Sal," I said weakly. She looked at me as if I just told her she was going to become queen the next day. "What are you doing here?" she asked trying to get rid of the tears.
I gave her a funny look. Am I not allowed at the cafe? "Never mind," she said shaking her head. "What's wrong?" I asked. She looked like she wanted to tell me something. She seemed conflicted I could tell. "Why do you care?" she snapped suddenly. I flinched at her sudden loud voice.
Regret flashed across her eyes momentarily but was quickly masked. "Look. I don't need your help or your pity. Heck, I don't even know why you are talking to me. Do you have nothing better to do than to bother me?" She said, but at the same time, she wasn't looking at me.
"Why are you acting like this?." I held onto both of her hands to get her to look at me. "Sally, you know you can tell me anything. So, why don't you just tell me what's going on?" She finally looked me in the eyes for the first time.
"I am only trying to help," I said.
"Well, I don't need your help." She said snatching her hands from my grasp and getting up. I watched her retreating figure as she left. It's almost like I don't even know her anymore. She changed so.....suddenly.
I could tell she wanted to tell me something by the look in her eyes. I jumped slightly when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see Dylan. "You okay?" he asked. I nodded biting my lip. I didn't want to cry in front of them.
You ever feel like you aren't going to cry until someone ask if you are okay? Well, that is exactly what happened. All the emotions came back up like a tidal wave. It was like I lost my best friend of 11 years all over again.
He enveloped me in his warm embrace as I tried to stop myself from having a complete breakdown right outside of the cafe. I didn't want to waste any more tears on her. She seemed to have made it very clear that she didn't want anything to do with me. Why should I continue to waste my time?
I pulled from Dylan and furiously wiped at my tears. I was done with her. From now on, she means nothing to me. "I knew you shouldn't have talked to her," Dylan said wiping my tears for me. "It's okay, you don't have to worry about her anymore." He furrowed his eyebrows at me. "What do you mean?" He must have thought I meant to kill her, but the way he said it.
"I mean I'm not going to worry about her anymore. She has made it crystal clear that she is done with me," I said my voice cracking at the end.
"Oh Lisa," he sighed pulling me in for another hug. "Don't let it upset you too much okay?" I nodded. "What are you guys doing? I for one don't want to just stand out here in this scorching heat. I know I am hot, but it doesn't need to be this excessive," Derek said fanning himself from the heat.
He saw my tear streaked face and his face softened. "What happened?" he asked placing a hand on my shoulder. Grayson also came and stood near him. "Later," Dylan said when he noticed I didn't say anything.
"Is it because I called you a toddler? You know I didn't mean it." "For the most part," he added. I sent him a small smile to let him know that it wasn't his fault. I kept looking back to where Sally was. Not to be dramatic, but I may never see her again, besides school obviously. Okay nevermind. "Come on let's go," Dylan said slinging an arm over my shoulder.

3 hours later and we were all sitting in the living room playing truth or dare. Well everyone except Auntie, Jason and Mark. They claimed that they were too old for that. Grayson was also here with us and yes, he had a shirt on. "Justin it's your turn," Jacob said. "No, it's not. Its Dylans turn," he replied pointing at Dylan.
"What are you talking about? I just went."
"No, you didn't."
"Were you not paying attention? I literally just went," Dylan said. I rolled my eyes. This is so typical of them. "Ok, ok, ok, I will go," I said raising my hands. Justin rolled his eyes. It was quite obvious he was really mad about his phone.
The past 5 times he dared Dylan and Derek to eat spoonfuls of anything that was extremely spicy and knowing those two they didn't back down. I'm sure they will get him back for it later though.
"Hmmm Ashley, truth or dare?"
"Truth."
"Baby," Derek snorted out.
"Ok, who do you think is the worst dressed person in the room?"
She thought looking around for a moment before her eyes landed on me. "You," she said with a mischievous glint in her eyes. Honestly, I should have seen that coming. I was literally wearing leggings and an oversized gray sweater. Someone turned the air conditioning all the way up okay!
"Yeah, who even wears those anymore," Riley added. She just couldn't sit that one out. "Maybe someone who has an actual taste in fashion," Justin joined in looking at Riley. "Oh come on, I think its cute," Grayson said winking at me.
I glared at him. Thankfully Dylan slapped him upside the head before I could. "Ow," he mumbled rubbing his head. "That's what you get," Dylan said glaring at him. "Okay next," Jacob said. Ashley chose Riley of course.
"Truth or dare."
"Dare."
"I dare you to dare Lisa."
"What!? you can't do that," I said exasperatedly. "Actually, she can," Jacob said. "How? I didn't know this was a thing," I said glaring at Jacob who seemed to be enjoying this. "Looks like it is sis," Dylan said checking some imaginary rules.
"Whatever," I said crossing my arms. "Alright. I dare Lisa to jump in the pool," Riley said. My mouth fell open. I had a huge phobia of water or drowning ever since what my Mom did to me. I didn't think she would go this low. "B-but." "Are you going to back down?" Riley questioned with a smirk.
"Yes she is," Dylan intervened. "Lisa you're not doing that," Jacob added. "You guys literally threw her in the pool last week," Grayson said. Dylan glared at him. "That was different," Dylan said. "Lisa would never willingly get into a pool."
Curse her. She knows I don't back down easily. I could not let her have that satisfaction. "Fine," I said getting up. She seemed a bit taken back by that, everyone did. They all followed me out to the pool.
I was definitely not going to jump into the deep end because I couldn't swim, so I would just have to go in the shallow end. Luckily the water was pretty warm because it was hot out so that wasn't a worry at all.
Might as well just get it over with. "Just stay in the shallow in," Jacob said. "Yeah, and besides I will be here to save you, like always," Grayson said winking at me followed by yet another slap upside the head by Dylan. I glared at him. "Say something stupid like that again. I dare you," Dylan said glaring at him. "Geesh, sorry man. You don't have to be so violent."
I turned back to the water and put one foot in at a time. "What are you doing? You have to jump in the deep end," Riley said when she saw what I was doing. "Whats wrong with you? Are you trying to kill her?" Justin asked looking at Riley in disbelief. Even Ashley looked confused as to why Riley would say that when she knew I couldn't swim.
Okay, I may be stubborn, but I am not that stubborn. This girl is simply crazy. "Or are you too much of a wimp to do it." she said with an evil look on her face. "Okay, that is enough," Derek said looking at Riley. "Go inside," he said pointing to the door.
"Ugh, of course you would stand up for her and not your own sister." she said storming inside. Derek went in after her followed by Ashley. We were left in an awkward silence. This started as a basic game of truth or dare. Oh how it escalated.
Jacob came over and pulled me out of the water. I only went in to my knees anyway. "You okay?" he asked. I nodded. "Oh would you look at that, I think my Mom is calling me. I better get going," Grayson said scratching the back of his head then he left.
Honestly I don't blame him.
I just want a regular, drama free day for once in my life. At least School would start in 2 days and that would provide some simplicity on my life. But come one, its school, and boy was I wrong.
