"Jason, tell Jacob and Dylan to leave me alone!" I shouted down the hallway. Not even an hour after we got home Dylan wanted to get me back for earlier and Jacob just wanted to join in for the fun.
Dylan and Jacob were both chasing me as I ran into the kitchen. Then I was cornered. Well, this didn't look very promising. Dylan looked at me with an evil look in his eyes.
"You know what? I finally got a perfect idea," Dylan said rubbing his hands together. I need to think of something quick. "If you don't leave me alone then I will share that one picture of you all over Instagram," I said smirking.
Jacob burst out laughing, but Dylan didn't find it so funny. "You wouldn't dare," he said coming closer to me. I admit he was quite intimidating, but I had to keep it up if I wanted to get out this situation alive.
"Y-yeah I would," I said stuttering a little. Leave it to my voice to betray me. "Don't make threats you can't keep," Jacob said patting my head. I looked around trying to plan my escape. Keyword 'Trying'. The minute I attempted to run past them I was picked up.
"Put me down!" I yelled kicking in their arms. I pray I did some damage. "Put me down," Dylan mocked. They were having way too much fun with this. "Ok," Jacob threw me on the couch. Like literally threw me on the couch.
I glared up at them. Now I knew there was no getting out of this. "Now little sis. I am getting you back, partly because of earlier and because I want to," he said. "Yeah and I just thought it would be fun," Jacob added in.
Is that like his role in this household? He is always the one who joins, because, and quote, 'I thought it would be fun'. "Yeah, whatever," I said rolling my eyes.
Dylan picked up the duct tape from the coffee table. I didn't even see it earlier. "What are you going to do with that?" I asked. He took a piece off and slapped it onto my mouth. Then Jacob took it and tied my hands together while Dylan tied my ankles.
I was officially tied up. I tried to break out of it, but it was no use. "mhndsdnos" I mumbled, but it probably sounded like gibberish. Okay, I will be the first to say it. These are the cruelest people who have ever walked the earth.
"What should we do with her now?" Dylan asked rubbing his chin. Jason walked down the stairs and looked at the scene. I started shouting through the duct tape in hopes Jason would help me.
"What are guys doing?" he asked. "Nothing, we are just having some sibling bonding time," Jacob answered. "Riiiggghhht,". "Yeah, Lisa voluntarily wanted to do this. She said it would make a great profile picture," Dylan said pulling out his phone.
There is no way he is going to believe them. He continued his way to the kitchen. "Just make sure to clean up whatever mess you make, and I am not taking anyone to the hospital," Then he headed up the stairs.
Well, there goes that opportunity. Jacob picked me up then set me on the lawn chair outside then added another layer of duct tape around me. Dylan grabbed the hose. Oh no. I know where this is going. I struggled through the tape to convince them to show me some mercy.
But the mischievous look on Dylan's face and the maniacal one on Jacobs, there was going to be no negotiation. In the next second, I was being blasted with freezing cold water.
And as Jacob always does he was recording the whole thing on his stupid phone. How I wish I could destroy that stupid phone. "This is so going on snap chat," Jacob said grinning like a fool. In this process, the tape on my mouth came off.
"STOP," I yelled out. "What, what was that?" Dylan shouted as if he hadn't heard me the first time. Idiot. There was water in my eyes, mouth, I was soaked from head to toe.
"Maybe, next time you won't share other peoples business around," he said spraying me one last time. That dumb smirk was still plastered onto his face. "I didn't think it was a big deal."
"Well, it was." Ooh, what does that mean? "Did you get it?" Dylan asked Jacob. "Oh yes, I am adding this to the album." What album was he talking about?
"Uum guys can you get me out of here now?" I asked nicely. Oh but wait till I am out of here. I won't be so nice. "Do you think we have tortured her enough?" Dylan asked Jacob.
Jacob rubbed his chin looking at me, in which I glared back at him. "Yeah, let's give her a break," he said. "See ya, sis," Then they both walked inside. "Jerks!," I yelled in which they laughed in response.
I just sat in the chair dripping with water from head to toe. When will my brothers become angels instead of demons? I really didn't feel like hopping all the way to the door so I just sat where I was. Surely Jason will notice and come down for me.
I looked around. Our backyard was surrounded by trees, then there was the fence separating our yard from the neighbors in which there were more trees on the other side. If it weren't for me being soaking wet, I would say it was really peaceful out here.
There was a small movement in the corner of my eyes. I looked but didn't see anything. Anytime now Jason. It happened again. I started to feel uneasy as if someone were watching me.
"Okay, Dylan you already got me, haha," I said aloud. I looked around waiting for him to pop up. I heard another sound as if a branch was stepped on and it cracked.
"Dylan come on. That's enough," When I heard the sound again I really started to worry. I wiggled a little in the chair I was in, but thanks to Jacobs stupid ducktape skills I had no chance.
Suddenly someone came running out of the trees towards me. I had no chance to see who they were before they were behind me and covered my eyes. Everything happened so fast I had no chance to scream.
"Sshh don't scream," the person said cutting the duct tape from my wrist and ankles. He picked me up and carried me into the trees where no one would see us.
Me being the stupid person I was I listened to him. It wasn't until he set me down and faced me towards him that I saw who it was. I was in total and utter shock. "D-dad!" I whispered. I stared at him. I didn't know what to think, what to say, what to do.
He looked really nervous and kept looking around. "W-w-what is going on?" I asked. I don't think the reality of what was happening really got to me yet. "Lisa, listen," he said bending down to my height.
I looked into the eyes that resembled mines so much. "Meet me at the cafe at 7:00 pm this evening. Not a minute later," he said. He looked around him once again. I just stared at him like a deer in headlights.
He looked at me once more and then left. What in the world just happened? I was beyond confused and honestly a little scared. I probably just stood there in shock not moving at all for what felt like an entire minute. "LISA, LISA WHERE ARE YOU?" someone shouted but they sounded really distant.
"LISA, THIS ISNT FUNNY," Jason's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I came out of the trees and into the clearing. He sighed a huge sigh of relief as I walked towards him. "Where were you?"Dylan asked.
"Nothing," I said. Yeah, cause that made a lot of sense. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Why were you back there?" Jason asked checking me over for any damages. "Uum, I'm fine," I said. I looked back towards where my Dad was then back towards the concerned faces of Jason and Dylan.
"You sure? You don't look fine," Dylan said. I nodded because that seems to be the only thing I could do at the moment. "Come inside," Jason said leading me in. "If this is your supposed way of getting me back, it didn't work," Dylan said grabbing his phone off of the kitchen counter.
"Yeah, sure," I headed up to my bedroom but was followed by Dylan. I forgot I was still soaking wet and made the mistake of sitting on my bed. Dylan invited himself in and sat across from me on my chair.
"Are you sure you're okay? You look like you have seen a ghost," he said. I really didn't want to tell him, but there was a small part of me that did. He continued when I didn't answer. "Lisa, come on. If you are mad at me for earlier, I'm sorry okay? Next time I will use warm water."
"No, it's not that." I was having WWZ right now determining if I should tell him or not. If I did, then it could get pretty bad for Dad. If I didn't tell, then they would find out some other way, and Dad would be as good as dead. Pretty much a lose-lose situation.
It's not like I was trying to protect him, but I guess in a way I was.
"Then what is it?" Dylan asked. He face was more of concern now. I was twirling my hair around my fingers. An action I constantly did whenever I was anxious or nervous.
I looked into his eyes making my final decision. "It was just something I saw in the trees, it caught my attention that's all," I said trying my best not to make any eye contact. That was the most flimsy lie ever.
"That's it? Well what was it?" he asked. "A bird." The look on his face was priceless. "You looked like you were being chased by Michael Meyers because of a bird?"
"It was really pretty...Then it fell," I added to make it a little more credible. I could actually laugh at myself right now. Dylan stared at me for about another 12 seconds before he got up. "Alright, then?" "It was just really sad."
He smiled, ruffled my hair, then started to leave but then stopped. "Wait how did you get out of the chair? Jacob did a pretty good job of tieing it," he asked confused. "A magician never reveals their secrets." He snorted "Whatever dork," he said then left the room.
I would have done just the same. My mind is an absolute mess. How am I suppose to get my brothers to let me go to the cafe alone? Let alone at 7 pm in the evening. Why did my father want to meet up with only me? Why was he in such a panic? Did my Mom have anything to do with this? Was this a trap?
Too many questions and zero answers. I just wanted to wipe my memory clean and forget about all of this stuff. In the process of all of my thinking, I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up it was dark out.
I was a little confused until I looked at the clock which read 6:30 pm. Only half an hour until the time I was to meet up with my Dad. I was definitely more nervous than I was before. I needed to come up with a plan first though.
If I called Anna and Aerial to meet me at the cafe as a cover then I could meet my Dad without raising any suspicions from my brother. I picked up my phone and called Anna.
(Conversation goes in order from Anna to Lisa)
'Hello?'
'Hey, Anna.'
'What's up?'
'I'm fine, I know we just met, but I was wondering if you could do me a small favor?'
'Oh come on you have proven to be a good friend. So what do you need?'
'Well, I have to meet someone at the cafe at 7, but I don't want my brothers to know-'
'Ooh so is it like a secret date?'
'No! no, it's not like that, its someone very important. So can you like, cover for me? You only have to show up for when my brother drops me off then you can leave.'
'Sure, anything for a friend.'
'Thank you so much.'
'Literally not a problem. See you at 7.'
'Okay bye.'
I ended the conversation feeling a little boost of confidence. If I didn't do this now then I would probably never get the chance. I had to get over the main obstacle, through which was to ask Jason. I walked outside the room and down to Jason's bedroom where I suspected he was.
As predicted he was laying on his bed with his headphones on in front of his laptop. I hopped on the bed next to him. "You're finally up, you were passed out," Jason said taking off his beats.
"Yeah, today was very.....eventful." "Are you alright? Dylan told me you were acting weird," he said looking at me. "I'm fine, I just had a lot to think about," I said.
"Well I am all ears," he said. I would have loved to tell Jason everything, but at the moment I was on a timer. "Not yet," I said. "Okay, well whenever you are ready, you know I am always here," he said.
I replied with a nod. "And Lisa, if something were going on, you would tell me right?" he asked. Dejavu anyone? "Yeah," "Good, now what do you want?" Here comes the hard part.
"You trust me right?" "Of course I trust you." I nervously twisted my hair around my fingers. "Well, I need to meet Anna at the cafe at 7 pm. In about half an hour," I said.
I didn't dare look at Jason. "Okay can it wait a minute before we go?," He asked. "I have to be alone," I said stopping him. "What? What do you mean?" he had the most confused face on ever. "I mean I have to go by myself." "Absolutely not," he said.
"You said you trusted me!" I said getting a little irritated. "Not to go to some cafe alone late in the evening," he said. "Your only 13 I can't let you go out there by yourself," he continued. "I won't be by myself. I will be with Anna," I replied
"Lisa, I will gladly go with you, but no way on this planet called earth will I let you go alone." He was very serious at this point. Fine, I will just have to go about this some other way. "Can you at least just drop me off and park somewhere nearby?" I was trying my hardest to get him to let me go.
"Lisa, no. You either go with one of us or you don't go at all," he spoke in his stern voice. I didn't want to be the reason they were stressed, but if it was the only way I could figure out what Dad wanted and at least answer some questions then I would have to deal with it. "Please,"
"Lisa I am not gonna let you and another 13 year old go out there by yourselves."She isn't just a 13-year-old she is my friend" "Who is 13," Jason replied. I crossed my arms over my chest. I know I was acting like a little child, but I had a lot on my mind.
Anyone could tell I was overanxious. I could practically hear the war going on in his mind. Contemplating what his final decision was going to be. "Lisa," he started to say but I guess the look on my face changed his mind real quick. Ha, that's what I thought.
"Okay," he sighed out. "But, let me get this straight. You want me to let you go out with your friend at 7 pm alone," he said. I nodded slowly. I didn't want him to think about it too much. He might change his mind.
"Follow me," he said taking my hand. Well, Now I had to didn't I? We went downstairs and into his office. He opened a drawer and pulled out a pepper spray. "I can't believe I am doing this," he mumbled to himself but I heard.
"Okay, this is pepper spray-no duh-it is small enough to fit in a small purse. If you think someone might start attacking you take it out of your purse naturally and have your finger on the button. If they start to advance towards you quickly turn around, spray them directly in the eyes with it, then run, okay?" he finished. I nodded taking all of the information in.
"Call me if something like that happens right away, and you and Anna stay together." He seemed a little nervous. "Jason, I am sure nothing like that is going to happen." I wanted to reassure him before he changed his mind. "Maybe, but I am really holding myself back and trusting you to let you go alone," he said.
If only he knew I was slowly breaking that trust. I have to keep reminding myself it is all for the right reasons. I'm sure they will understand in the long run. I gave him a huge hug. "Thank you so much, Jason," I said.
He returned the gesture tighter and longer.

Jason dropped me off and after about 10 minutes of him making sure Anna and I were good and making sure we knew what to do in any emergency situations, he left. Anna and I settled ourselves in a small booth at the back of the cafe.
We were 15 minutes early. I wanted to make sure everything was going to go according to plan without any of my brothers finding out. "So are you going to tell me who this mysterious person is that you are meeting?" Anna asked.
I didn't know Anna that well yet, neither did she to me, but at the same time, the sound of her voice and the look on her face made me think that I could tell her anything. I hesitated for a moment. She did agree to cover for me and that must mean something.
"It's my Dad," I said. "He doesn't have good standings with my brothers and me, and if my brothers found out that he was talking to me it wouldn't be good," I continued after noting her confused expression.
"Oh," was all she said after. I had no plans of going in detail with her yet. "Yeah. He told me to come here. He said he had something very important to discuss, but my brothers wouldn't let him come to them so....." I trailed off.
She nodded seemingly deep in thought. "Look, I know I don't know anything about your personal life or about your Dad. But are you sure this is a safe idea?" The look in her eyes were of good intentions. She did make a good point.
"I mean what if he is planning to kidnap you or worse," she said. Where was my thinking? Why hadn't I thought of these beforehand? I guess I was too blinded by the thought of my Dad possibly wanting us back that it completely blindsided me from the possibility of danger.
I looked down thinking everything through. Should I back out now? "It's just food for thought," she said. "But I am just trying to look out for you." I looked at my phone. We still had 10 minutes before my Dad would show up. I could still leave.
"I appreciate the thought, I really do, but this may be my only opportunity to know if my Dad wants us back. I may never get another chance after this," I said.
She nodded. "Okay, but I am not leaving," she said. I gave her a confused look. "What, no-," "I can't leave you alone with someone you barely know, knowing the risks," she said cutting me off.
She had so much determination in her face it was hard to convince her otherwise. "Anna, I am not going to drag you into our family drama," I said. "And I am not going to watch a friend get herself into trouble."
I stared at her in disbelief. "So either I am staying with you, or we are both going," She said, and trust me she was not one to mess with. I did not want her to be involved with this. When I do this it has to be alone.
"Fine, let's go," I said. She clapped her hands together. "Well let's go." We began to walk out of the store when a familiar voice called after me. I turned around and saw Liam. I almost forgot he worked at this cafe.
"Hey, Lisa," he said stopping in front of me. I waved at him and smiled in which he returned the gesture. He looked at Anna and I and frowned. "Is it just you two?" he asked.
We nodded. "Yeah we were just about to leave," I said. "Oh, well I can drop you guys off. I was just about to finish my shift," he said. I looked at Anna who wiggled her eyebrows at me.
"Uum that's not necessary we don't live very fa-." "Yeah, of course, we will wait," Anna once again interrupted me. "Ok wait here," he said then went into the back.
"What are you doing?" I asked her. "Come on the chemistry between you two is unbearable I had to do something," she said. I looked around hoping my Dad hadn't spotted us. I almost forgot.
"We need to hide. I don't want my Dad to spot us," I said. Anna nodded then took us behind the building. "They usually come out of the employee door, so we should be fine," she said when she saw my confused face.
As stated he came out of the employee door with a trash bag in his hand. He gave us a shocked expression when he saw us. "Is everything alright?" he asked.
"Yep, just waiting," Anna answered for me when I didn't. After a couple of minutes, he came out the same door and led us to his car. It was a pretty nice car.
Anna hopped in the back. I was about to go in after her when she pointed to the front seat. I shook my head no, but as always she insisted. So I reluctantly went to sit in the front.
Liam got in and we were off. Just as we were pulling off I saw my Dad walking into the cafe. I felt a little bad standing him up like this, but I had to make sure he was serious about this.
If he did contact me again then I could be sure that he wanted this as badly as I did.
"I'm sorry my car is a little dirty. I wasn't really expecting anyone," he said. "It's fine," I said. I twirled my hair around my fingers as we sat in silence. "So, I'm surprised your brothers let you stay out this late," he said.
"Yeah, same but it took a lot of convincing," I said in which he chuckled. He has a nice voice. "You know you can actually drop me off first, I am not too far from here," Anna said from the back seat.
"Ok," Liam replied back. Anna gave him the directions and in about 5 minutes we arrived. I have never actually been to Anna's house. When we pulled up It was a nice small two story house with a beautiful garden and front porch.
"Alright this is me," she said stepping out of the car. We both waved her bye as she walked inside. Not after not so subtly winking at me. After we were sure she was inside we drove off.
It was silent for a couple minutes before Liam spoke up. "So how is everything going?" he asked. I gave him a questioning look. "With your friend?" he asked. I immediately knew who he was talking about.
I haven't actually thought about her much. As a matter of fact, I almost forgot about her. "It's still the same. I don't think it will change ever," I said solemnly. He spared a glance towards me.
"Don't be upset. You have me," he said. I looked at him and smiled. "Thanks." "Besides she is the one who is losing out here," he said. I didn't know how to respond to that. I wasn't use to receiving so many compliments all in one night.
"You can turn left up here," I said as we were getting closer to my house. "Do you want to talk about it?" he asked. Did I? "Nah I don't want to be a downer," I said.
"Oh come on, you?" he asked laughing. "What?" I asked. "It's just, I don't see you as the downer type," he said. "Oh please," I said not believing him for a second. "What it's true," he said defensively.
"Okay, okay I believe you," I said. "Good." "What's your favorite color?" he asked out of the blue. "Uum, blue," I answered. "Mines is black," he said. "Black!" "Yeah, what's wrong with black?" he asked.
"Nothing, it's just a basic color," I said. "Black is a color that brings about lots of mysteries. That's why I like it," he said. I nodded. "Okay, fair enough," I said. "Besides who doesn't like black?" he asked. I raised my hand. He put a hand to his chest in fake hurt making us both laugh.
"How dare you!?" he asked. I only laughed in response. When I finished I caught him looking at me. "What?" I asked suddenly feeling self-conscious. "See your not a downer," he said smirking. "Was that your goal all along?" I asked smiling.
"Maybe," he said smiling back at me. "Well thank you, I appreciate it," I said. "Of course, anything to make you feel better," he said which made me blush.
My phone rang and without looking at the caller ID I answered it.
"Hello?"
"Lisa,"
I immediately recognized the voice to belong to my Dad.
"Where are you?"
His voice held a certain amount of hostility but also sadness. My heart started beating a thousand miles a second. I just hung up the phone without answering his question.
"Everything alright?" he asked noting my sudden change of mood. "Yeah just a wrong number," I said. He spared me another concerned glance. "This is my place," I said as we pulled up to my house.
He parked on the side of the road. I started to get out when he called me back. "Hey blue," he said. I raised my eyebrow at the nickname. "Yeah?" I asked. "Would you mind coming to the cafe tomorrow afternoon?" he asked. Was he doing what I think he was doing?
"Uum, sure," I said shyly. I got out of the car and walked to my front porch. I looked back to see him watching me. I waved and he waved back. I stepped inside the house locking the doors behind me.
"Well, that wasn't very long," Jason said from the living room which startled me a little. "Were you just sitting there waiting for me to come home?" I asked. "Duh," he said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"So how come you are here so early?" he asked as I plopped on the couch next to him giving him a hug. "Anna got called back for a family emergency," I said. The lie came off so easily it scared me.
"Ok, but how did you get home?" he asked. "Uum we walked," I said not wanting to mention Liam. He nodded turning his attention back to the TV. "Aww, your home already?" Dylan asked coming down the stairs.
"Ha ha ha," I replied rolling my eyes. In which he stook his tongue out at me. Very mature. After Dylan went back upstairs Jason shut the TV off. "Okay Lisa I have waited long enough, but you need to tell me what's really going on," he said facing me.
Oh, crab.
