Chapter 24: ~23~ New Friend?

OverprotectiveWords: 23315

Half an hour after our talk with Jason. Justin, Dylan, and Jacob are currently playing football outside. I have no idea where Jason went, and I am bored. I literally feel like I have no friends. Now that I think about it, I truly don't have any friends. There was Sally, but she proved to be a waste of time.

I really need to go out and look for some friends. With that in mind, I got up from the couch I was sitting on and went to look for Jason. I went outside first, in hopes he was playing with the other boys.

I walked out just in time to see Jacob tackle Dylan to the ground. Wow, that game can be quite violent. I went back inside and checked his office, which now that I think about it should have been the first thing I did.

And as predicted there he was sitting in his famous black office chair, that was behind a silver desk. He was facing his laptop and seemed quite concentrated.

"Hey Jason," I said waving at him to get his attention. He looked up at me and smiled. "Hey kiddo, what do you need?" he asked closing his laptop.

"Well, I am actually really bored here. There is nothing for me to do, and I don't have any friends to talk to." I said twirling my hair around my finger.

"Oh Lisa, well what do you want me to do about it," Jason said sighing. "Well, I wanted to go somewhere, like maybe the cafe, or the mall, so that I could meet someone," I said.

I know right about now, I probably sound so outgoing and fun. Well, I am probably the exact opposite. I am really shy. I just want to get out of the house and do something other than stare at the same walls.

Jason gave me a funny look. "A friend, just a friend," I said laughing nervously. Oh, come on. "Okay, well if you really want to go you will have to ask one of the boys to go with you," he said swiveling in his chair

"Do I really have to ask one of the boys to come with me, why can't I just go by myself?" I said throwing my hands in the air. This happens everytime I want to go somewhere. "You know why you can't go by yourself," he said raising an eyebrow at me.

I only rolled my eyes. Of course, I knew why he didn't want me to go by myself. He didn't want me to get kidnapped, or robbed, or killed, and yes he said those exact words, in that exact order.

"Ugghh fine, can I go with Justin?," I asked batting my lashes. He only laughed. "Nice try Lisa, but you know letting Justin go is just as bad as letting you go by yourself," he said. And he has a fair point Justin can't do much.

Now I know you might be saying, didn't Justin basically just save your life. Well yeah that is true, but we were up against some short not very strong lady, nothing compared to what could happen in the outside world, as Jason puts it.

I didn't want Jason to go with me, because he will probably suggest, all the dumb stores, and half of the times I end up getting nothing. Jason is busy so that only leaves Dylan. Jason was still looking at me. "Fine, I can go with Dylan," I said rolling my eyes.

I really didn't want to go with anyone, but it was either go with someone or don't go at all. That's the way it works. Jason nodded. "Alright, let him know, then let me know when you guys are leaving," he said opening his laptop and continuing with his work.

I went towards where the boys were playing football but noticed they weren't there anymore. I turned around to go back inside but bumped into someone. I looked up and was met with Dylan's blue eyes.

"Watch where your going Dylan," I said rubbing my bum. "Hey if you were taller, you probably would not have been in this situation," he said helping me up. "Haha very funny," I said dusting myself off.

I switched my attitude in a second when I realized I have to be nice to him If I want him to come with me. "Do you know that you are like, my favorite brother?" I said. I added a hug for good measure.

He didn't hug me back. "You know if you are wanting something it's gonna come with a price," he said. I could basically smell the smirk that was most likely on his face right now. I quickly dropped the hug and looked up at him.

"Fine can you take me to the mall?" I asked batting my lashes. "No can do little sis," he said starting to walk off. I knew what he was doing. He is gonna make me think he is leaving so that I beg him to come back, then we negotiate what I have to do in return for him, then I end up basically humiliating myself or doing something Illegal.

"Wait, Wait, Wait," I said, and instantly regretted the words. "Yes?'' he said smirking. He looked exactly like the devil. "What do you want?" I asked. "Thought you wouldn't ask," he said walking back towards me. I rolled my eyes.

"Hmm let's see, I can't think of anything right now, but I assure you I will think of something."

He said with an evil glint in his eyes. I sighed in frustration. "Can we just go already" I exclaimed. I am tired of his tricks.

"Okay. but know, You still owe me one," he said. "Okay, Okay, I get it, let's just go," I said. He went inside to grab his keys I am assuming, and I went into his car, sitting in the back for safe measures. After a while, he came in and turned towards me.

"Why are you sitting in the back?" He asked. "No reason, just thought the seats back here were comfier," I said. "He turned around and looked at me through the rear view mirror. "He just smirked. "I love it when you're scared of me," he said.

I rolled my eyes for the zillionth time today. "So where do you wanna go?" he asked switching the gear to drive. Hmm, I was thinking about the mall, but I am not sure I will find someone there. As stupid as that sounds, because hello its the mall. I think I will have better luck in a smaller setting.

"How about that cafe up the road?" I asked. I think there is a good amount of people there. "Alright," he said. He turned the radio up and started tapping his fingers to the music. I looked out the window and saw an elderly lady walking her dog. They look so peaceful and happy. Going about their lives.

Sometimes I wish I was old. I could just chill all day, every day. My nine dogs and I would play games. That somewhat sounds unrealistic, I know but one can only hope. "Mcdonalds, Wendys, which one?"

I turned towards Dylan, "umm how about we eat in the cafe." I said, what was the point of going there if we weren't going to eat there. "Oh come, on can we please eat somewhere else?" He said.

"Hey you are supposed to be driving me around," I said folding my arms. "Nice try Lisa, but in case you forgot, I am the older one here," He said as if that was supposed to mean something.

I stared him down through the rearview mirror, and he stared at me back. Wait I just realized that he is driving, he should be having a staring contest with the road. "Dylan watch the road, not me!" I said as he barely missed a car.

Okay maybe we could have almost died, but I could use this against him. I guess I am just that crazy. "You could have killed us, Dylan," I said faking sadness. I peeked to see him looking at me.

"Oh come on, you are exaggerating, I was watching the road, we would have been just fine," He said. I faked cried harder. "Lisa doesn't be a crybaby," he said. "I am telling Jason you nearly got us killed," I said smiling. He couldn't see my face though.

I felt the car slow down, and then park somewhere. I made sure I had some tears on my face and then looked up, and what do you know we were parked at the cafe. "Please don't tell Lisa, see, we are at the cafe," he said.

I could tell he was nervous. He was scared of Jason, only if it meant he would get into trouble, and telling Jason that he could have killed us would certainly get him in trouble.

I immediately smiled at him and got out of the car. "Thanks, Dylan," I said and went inside the cafe. The only way to get your way around my brothers is, to cry. It seems to work every time.

I looked around the cafe, and just as I suspected it wasn't too full, but it also wasn't too empty. I found a seat by a window, fit for two. I looked around and waited for Dylan to come in. Was he ever going to come in?

He finally walked in the door and spotted me in our seats. Oh yeah, he looked irritated. He walked over and sat across from me. "You can't keep pulling stuff like that Lisa," he said. "Oh come on, it worked didn't it?" I asked.

He only grumbled in response. Behind us was an elderly couple, drinking some coffee together, on our right was a mother having a nice conversation with her teenage daughter. I sometimes wish I could do that, but unfortunately my mother, well wasn't really a mother.

I looked down at my hands, thinking of the things my mother and I could have done if only she acted like a real one. Suddenly Dylan's hands were on mines. "Hey you okay?" he asked. I looked up at him and nodded.

I didn't really want to get into that, considering the little run-in I had with my mom at the park 3 days ago. "I'm fine, just had a thought, that's all," I said when I felt him still looking at me.

"Anyway, I am going to get something, what do you want?" I asked standing up. "Unum, I'll have everything on the menu," He said. I only faked laughed. "Hahaha seriously, what do you want?" I asked again. "I don't know, surprise me," He said making a surprised face.

Okay then, he wants to play jokes, I can play jokes. I smiled back at him. "Okay, then big bro," I said walking away. I went up to the counter after wearing through a bunch of people.

"Hey, how can I take your order," A young guy said. He seemed to be 15 or 16 years old. He had bright blue eyes and shaggy dark brown hair. He also had little freckles on his face. He looked kinda cute.

"Uum, I'll have a dark chocolate frozen shake, a chocolate lava cake and-' I looked towards where Dylan was sitting and he was looking down at his phone, "-some napkins," I said smiling at my plan.

"Wow, you must really like chocolate huh?" He asked laughing. "Yeah, I guess so" I laughed back. Was this guy flirting with me? Surely he already had a girlfriend. I mean he should definitely have one.

"Uum how much will the total be?" I asked. "Its okay I'll take care of it," he said looking down at me with those piercing blue eyes. Was this guy serious? "Seriously it's fine, my brother is paying anyway," I said.

"Either way, it's fine, I'll take this one," he said. I looked at him, and he looked back at me. It was something about his smile that made me want to melt into his arms. "Okay" I found myself saying before I even realized it. He smiled at me and I smiled back.

I turned around and went back towards the table where Dylan and I were sitting. He was looking at me when I sat down. "What did you get me?" he asked. I looked at him and smirked. "It's a surprise," I said. "Just like you wanted," I said for added effect.

Oh, it will be a surprise. I thought still smiling at him. He looked up from his phone and furrowed his eyebrows. "So school starts in a few weeks," I said, just to start a conversation. Dylan put his phone away and nodded.

"Yep, no more sleeping in till noon." He said sighing. Was that all he cared about. I was more worried about not making any friends. Sally was supposed to be my go to, but I guess plans have changed.

"Your gonna be in eighth grade, they grow up so fast," Dylan said wiping away a fake tear. "Oh whatever", I said rolling my eyes. "Besides, that's great news for me, because that means I can start dating," I said adding an exaggeration on dating, just to see what Dylan would say.

"You can date, whoever you want", he said. My face must have been of pure shock. "Once you turn 22'', he said ruffling my hair from across the table. And there it is. "Oh come on, you guys let Justin date once he got in eighth grade," I said.

"Uum correction ninth grade, and besides, he can handle himself," Dylan said. "What, and I can't," I said throwing my hands in the air. "That is so unfair," I said crossing my arms.

"Hey, personally, I don't mind if you date, It's the big dogs you have to worry about." He said. By big dogs, he was addressing Jason and Jacob. They would never let me date, probably till I am past 22.

"What if they changed their mind?" I asked, stirring a little hope in myself. "Not a chance," he said. I just sat back and huffed. I would have to talk to them about that when I got home. Right after that the guy from the counter earlier came up and brought our food. Well, my food.

"Here you guys go, dark chocolate frozen shake, a chocolate lava cake, and some napkins," he said setting the items on our table. "Enjoy," He said looking at me and winking. Thankfully Dylan didn't see anything since he was too busy looking at the items.

I had to try hard to not blush so that Dylan wouldn't start questioning me. "Okay which one is mine?" he asked looking between the two chocolaty goodness. I reached over both of the foods and picked up the napkins.

"Here you go," I said handing them to him. He only stared at my hands, then looked back up at me. "This is a joke right," He said with a not so humorous glint in his eyes. I made sure the item was close to me so that he wouldn't be able to snatch them.

"Lisa, I swear you better be joking," He said. Okay at this point, he was starting to look very angry. "You said you wanted a surprise, so.....I got you a surprise" I said trying to contain my laughter.

All of a sudden he started smiling. "Alright don't worry about it, I will just get you when we get home," He said. Oh no, I hated when they did this. 'No, here you can have my shake" I said pushing it towards him. He took it and started drinking it.

After a couple sips, he said, "I am still getting you back".

We finished eating at the place, and now that I was on a full stomach, I felt like I could actually go out and meet some people. If you couldn't tell I was in a desperate hope to meet someone before school started back up.

"I'm going to the restroom, stay here," Dylan said getting up. "Oh, don't take too long, we don't want to run everyone out of the place," I said laughing towards the end. Dylan glared at me and continued to the restroom.

I just sat there looking around the place, hoping to spot someone who would be around my age to talk to. That's when I saw her. Sally. She was sitting with a group of people. 2 boys and 1 girl. She seemed to be having fun.

She was sitting on one of the boy laps, while the other two were laughing at something she said. Wow, she seemed to move on fast. We made brief eye contact, but I quickly looked away. I was not about to deal with her.

I wanted to prove that I didn't need her to be happy. Which she seems to already be. I wanted to get out of this place, so I walked out and went towards the back. It was much more peaceful here than in the cafe.

Not even a minute passed before I heard footsteps coming in my direction. I looked up and was met with the same glimmering blue-eyed boy, who took my order. I smiled at him as he walked next to me.

"I'm on break, in case you were wondering, didn't want you to think I was some kind of stalker," he said laughing towards the end of what he said. His laugh was contagious, and before I knew it, I was laughing too.

"Yeah, well no worries," I said. He looked down at me. "Well, if I am gonna be totally honest, I kinda came out here, mostly because of you," he said.

I was a little weirded out by what he said, but at the same time, it struck my interest. I only smiled in response, not knowing what else to say. "Anyway, how has your day been going?" he asked. "Well, up until just a few minutes ago great," I said

I sat down on a piece of cardboard that was laying on the ground. I made a little room in case mystery boy wanted to sit to, which it seemed he did. "Why's that?, if you don't mind me intruding," He said.

"No, it's okay, it's something to do with my friend, long story, but to sum it all up, well....she is no longer a friend," I said. I was about to wipe away a tear that had begun to fall, but mystery boy beat me to it.

"Hey, you don't have to talk about it if you don't want to," He said. "Thanks," I said. In all honesty, I really didn't want to talk about it. I leaned back and breathed a breath of fresh air. "I just wished, things were better between us, we've been friends since I can remember, I just don't understand why she would do that," I said.

"Things will turn up, I am sure," he said pushing my hair behind my ears. I had no idea what was going on, I had only met this kid not even an hour ago. I backed up a bit and gave him an awkward smile. "Well, I better get headed, before my brother gets too worried," I said standing up.

As I was walking away he said something. "Liam" Is what he said. I paused and turned around to him. "What?" I asked confused. "That's my name, Liam," he said. I smiled at him and made my way into the cafe.

On the way inside, I bumped into Dylan. "Oh Thank God," he said hugging me. "Where were you?" he asked shaking my shoulders. "I told you to stay inside," he said before I even got a chance to answer him.

"I was just getting some fresh air," I said. "Around the back of the building?" he asked with a puzzled expression. I only shrugged my shoulders. "Don't do that again you could seriously get hurt" he said. On the way to the car, I quickly looked back to see Liam, looking back at me.

~Overprotective~

"Okay it seems that the cafe didn't work, so we should probably go somewhere else," I said. I sat in the front this time instead of the back. "Okay can I choose this time, I'll admit the food was great, but there weren't many people there," he said.

"What, are you wanting to meet people too?" I asked. "What no, I just don't want my baby sister alone on the first day of school," he said briefly looking over at me.

I guess he knew after all why I was so eager to meet someone. "Come on Lisa, you don't have to worry, who wouldn't want to be friends with you?" he said nudging me a little.

Obviously, Sally didn't, I thought in the back of my mind. "Yeah, well I just want to know at least one person before school starts," I said. I didn't want to be that new girl that sits alone at lunch.

"Well, despite that if anyone does mess with you at school, you can come to one of us okay?" he said.

"Okay Dylan, maybe we should just go home," I said. Just as he was about to answer, his phone rang. He answered it. I shook my head because I always stressed the importance of driving without the distraction of a phone. They do it all the time, without thinking of any possible consequences.

"Hello- yeah-" Dylan looked over at me and turned the radio up. Wonder what that was for. I strained my hearing to hear what he could be saying, and who was on the other line. I could only hear the end of some of his sentences.

"-make sure- is he there?- she is with me- okay" was all that I could hear from him. He hung up the phone and looked at me. He gave me a quick smile and quickly looked back at the road.

I turned the radio down. "What was that about?" I asked. "Uum nothing, I think we should stop at the park before we get home," He said. He seemed nervous. "Who was that on the phone?" I asked.

"Oh um, it was just Jason, he wanted us to stay out a little longer," He said. "Why?" I asked. He looked at me. "Can we just stop with the questions? Jacob is going to drop Justin off to the park, and we can all hang," he said.

It still didn't make any sense to me why he was acting so strange. I will just have to play detective later.

We arrived at the park, and just as Dylan said there Jacob was sitting in the car with Justin in the front seat.

"Okay stay here," he said and got out before I had a chance to ask him why. He went over to Jacobs car and said something to Justin.

I watched as Justin came out of Jacobs car and came into Dylan's car. He seemed mad and frustrated. I turned towards him. "What do you think is going on?" I asked. "Why are they acting so strange?"

"I don't know Lisa, but what I do know is that I had to stop the middle of my fortnite game because Jason got some stupid phone call," He said.

Oh, so that is what he is so mad about. Makes sense. "Is that what you are seriously thinking about right now?" I asked looking at him through the rearview mirrors.

"Why did you have to say it with that tone?", "You will never get it, fortnite is everything, I was in the last three, the last three," he said. I rolled my eyes and turned towards Jacob and Dylan. They seemed to be in a serious conversation.

I looked back at Justin and he was still mad. "Can you just please get over it, we have a bigger mystery to solve," I said.

"Fine, whatever," "But they better have had a good excuse," he said folding his arms. "Can you hear anything?" I asked.

"Well, when the cars are basically parked a mile apart......NO," he said. "Why are you yelling?" I asked. "I am not yelling, you just asked a really dumb question just now, that's all," he said.

"Okay well, do you have any idea on what it could be about?" I asked. "After all you were at the house," I said.

"In case you forgot, I was playing fortnite, which means everything and everyone else is blocked out," he said using his hand as gestures. I nodded my head and started biting on my nails. He is so useless.

I looked around the park we were at, which was the one we went to just a couple of days ago. It was still pretty bright out seeing as though it was only 1:00 pm.

We waited in the car in silence for what felt like another 10 minuted before Dylan came back to the car. "What was that about?" I asked looking at him.

He put the car into drive and started to leave the park. Jacobs car was already gone. I didn't even notice. "It was nothing important," he said. He turned the opposite way of home.

Justin nearly choked. "Nothing IMPORTANT, you stopped my fortnite game for nothing important?" he said in disbelief. Welcome to the life of living with a gamer. I could basically hear Dylan roll his eyes.

"It's nothing you guys need to worry about, okay?" he said looking at me, but I didn't believe him. Something wasn't right, and I could sense it. "Why aren't we going home?" Justin asked. "Uum..we are gonna drive around for a bit before we head home," he said

I started thinking about all of the possible situations that could have happened that they were keeping from us. All of a sudden I started violently coughing, which I was sure was asthma related.

"Lisa" Dylan said as I was gasping for air. He pulled onto the side of the road and opened the glove compartment pulling out a red inhaler. He handed it to me and I gratefully took it. After a couple hits my breathing started getting better.

Dylan held both of my shoulders and looked me in the eyes. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine," I said composing myself.

"Are you sure?" Justin asked. "Yes I am okay, just stress," I said looking at both of them to assure them. Dylan sighed a relief sigh and sat back properly in his seat. He rubbed his face and looked at both Justin and me.

"Do you guys really want to know what is going on?" he asked. "Nah, Nah save your breath, we are just confused on WHAT THE HELL IS GOIN ON" Justin said shouting the last part.

"Okay, okay..........mom and dad are home"
