Chapter 69
As soon as the doctor left the room, Kyle came in.
âWhat does the doctor say? Are you feeling very unwell?â
âSoâ¦â
She muffled her words as if she couldnât believe them herself.
âWhat happened? Huhâ¦?â
âIâm pregnant.â
Kyle also stared at Rosalind without saying anything. Then, he hugged her slender body tightly like a man who had suddenly come to his senses.
âI didnât even knowâ¦â
There was a hint of regret in his characteristic low, soft voice. âI didnât even know,â she didnât know why he said that. In the first place, he hadnât done anything wrong to her. Rosalind asked back puzzledly as Kyle hugged her tighter.
âYou took me on vacation because I was overworked.â
âWas the vacation unreasonable?â
In the end, she burst out laughing. Anyone who saw it would think that he did something very serious. However, unlike the smiling Rosalind, Kyleâs face was stern.
âIs your stomach upset because of your pregnancy? Is it not serious? Is everything all right?â
âSure. There is nothing wrong.â
His expression darkened a little, even when she said that she was really okay. The husband was usually most pleased when the wife was pregnant, but Kyle showed no sign of that.
âDo you want Leoâs sibling to be a daughter or a son?â
âI donât care. It doesnât matter.â
ââ¦Arenât you happy that Iâm pregnant?â
When he said it didnât matter if it was a daughter or a son, Rosalind asked in a slightly upset tone. She even thought that maybe he didnât like having children.
âIâm happy, Iâm so happy⦠I was worried about what would happen if you got hurt while giving birth. Thatâs why.â
Hearing his answer, this time, she hugged him tightly. Rosalind could tell in his tone and actions that he really cared for her. In fact, there were quite a few things that went wrong when she gave birth to the child, so while she understood his feelings a little, she felt grateful.
âDonât worry. I will be fine.â
âFrom today on, never overdo it and take it easy. First of all, I need to call the midwife right away.â
âWhat do you mean by a midwife in early pregnancy!â
At his words, she waved her hand as if it were nonsense. Then, Kyle gazed at her face and opened his mouth.
âItâs not that Iâm not happy. Strangely, I keep getting scared for you. Youâre still weak, so Iâm always worriedâ¦:
âI will give birth to a very healthy baby without worries.â
âYes. It must be so.â
Promise.
Rosalind grinned as she heard his voice.
âI want to visit the market for a moment. Iâm a little pent up.â
âIt is colder outside than yesterday. If you catch a cold, itâs a big deal.â
Kyle responded firmly to Rosalindâs words.
At that, she pouted her mouth, dissatisfied and spoke back, âThe doctor also told me that simple exercise is okay.â
âYou did a simple exercise yesterday too.â
âWhat kind of exercise, just walking around here for a while.â
Even though she protested diligently, it did not work. Rosalind opened her mouth for a few more words but stopped.
She said she wanted to go out for a walk because it was frustrating to stay at home yesterday. So, she went out after a long time though it couldnât even be called a walk. It was just having lunch and walking around the garden for a while. So, how could she call it exercise?
After laying in bed like this after a day or two, she was getting tired of it. Still, Kyle was busy trying to stop her, saying that wherever she moved, she had to stay put.
âRosalind, the doctor told you to rest.â
He opened his mouth softly as if to appease his sullen wife.
âDo you have anything else? Something you want to eatâ¦â
âIâve already eaten so much that Iâm going to be a plump pig.â
Kyle swallowed a smirk at her words. Capturing that smile, Rosalind rolled her eyes. Meanwhile, a slight shock was spreading like a crack in her face.
ââ¦Why are you smiling and not denying it?â
Unlike Rosalind, who had a serious expression, he still had a light face.
âWhere in the world is there a pig who likes strawberries so much?â
In his eyes, she was just cute. She seemed to care that she had gained more weight than she had before her pregnancy, but as time went on, she only seemed cuter and prettier.
Not long ago, she wanted to eat strawberries, so everyone was in an uproar at night looking for strawberries. Not knowing what had happened as she stayed in bed, her cheeks dyed red like strawberries as she ate the sweet fruit.
Rosalind blinked her eyes and asked if he had been bothered by her. Then, the words she spat out shyly were even worse.
âBecause the baby in the stomach wants to eat it⦠not meâ¦â
Seeing that, he burst into laughter.
Although she repeatedly told him not to laugh, Kyle couldnât stop laughing until she finished eating the strawberries and wiped her hands with the handkerchief. He then reached out and stroked Rosalindâs cheek before gently pulling her cheek.
âAre you teasing me now?â
âMaybe.â
At those words, her eyes fluttered open at his relaxed look.
âIf you eat well, you will have a healthy child. Isnât it?â
âThatâs right. But the Duke is too worried.â
âWhat should I do about the worry? Itâs not up to me.â
She knew his worries were for her, but nonetheless, it was too much.
âMadam, the doctor is waiting.â
Rosalind let out a small sigh at the voice coming from outside the door.
âWe had a checkup yesterday.â
She said, looking at Kyle. Her tone had a subtle scolding, saying that it was unusual.
âIt would be better to check it every day, though.â
Come in.
At his command, the doctor entered the room, and Kyle walked out. It was common sense and custom in this country that even the spouse would not be able to observe the examination process, even though he wanted to ask by her side how the diagnosis was and her condition.
Kyle, who came out of the hallway with Rosalind behind, turned towards Leoâs room. After the examination, he thought of coming back. However, as soon as he saw the maid, Isis, who was waiting at the door, he naturally let his worries about his wife flow.
âWhat happened while I was away? Is there anything that makes her uncomfortableâ¦?â
Isis politely responded to Kyleâs words.
âAlthough she was still having morning sickness, she was still eating relatively well. Madam said that her hands and feet are numb, so I massaged them whenever I have time.â
âBecause she doesnât tell me anythingâ¦â
âActually, the Madam is not the one who does that. Master doesnât either.â
Isis responded with a sly smile.
âIâm going to bring Leo. So, when the examination is over, please take care of Rosalind.â
âShould I have someone bring the Young Master?â
âNo, itâs okay. Iâll go get him.â
âYes. Then, I will do as you ordered.â
Anyway, Leoâs playroom wasnât too far from his wifeâs bedroom. Rosalind wanted to see Leo often, so she purposely arranged it close to hers.
It was when he walked up to the front of the room diagonally from the bedroom and raised his hand to knock. He heard the childâs innocent laugh from inside the door, and he smiled along. Leoâs cheerful voice intermingled between the maidâs voices.
Kyle, who had stood for a moment with a happy face as if appreciating the sound, knocked on the door a moment later.
His voice was heard much louder following the knock. And, as soon as the door was opened, Leo rushed out from inside.
âDad!â
âOur Leo.â
He hugged Leo, who was growing day by day, at once. As the child was cradled in his arms, he let out a cheerful laugh.
âShall we go see mom together?â
âYes!â
Kyle took Leo and walked away. It wouldnât take too long since itâs a simple check-up she does every day anyway, so he thought the time would be just right if he took Leo. Standing in front of Rosalindâs bedroom, Isis added, opening the door.
âThe examination has just finished, and the doctor is waiting inside.â
As he entered the room, an elderly female doctor greeted him with her head bowed. Leo had already run to Rosalindâs arms, calling his mother, and Kyle asked the doctor with a calm but serious face.
âHow is the wife?â
âShe is a bit frail, but both the fetus and the mother are healthy.â
âThatâs a relief.â
âYes. There are no big problems.â
Even now, when her stomach swelled up, her pregnancy was smooth, fortunately, without any major problems.
âThereâs no problem!â
Rosalind, who was then leaning back against the head of the bed, raised her voice to Kyle and the doctor.
â¦If there was only one problem, she said that Kyle was too unusual. It was not enough for him to have several doctors stationed in the castle; he had her checked up every day, and when it came to her, he was fussing over the little things.
âThe Duke was worried too much, so I went through a checkup even though I was in good shape⦠Do you know how embarrassing that is? I must be the only mother who is this unusual.â
The doctor unknowingly burst out laughing at Rosalindâs protest. Then, hmm-hmm, she glanced at Rosalind and cleared her throat, then gently opened her mouth.
âStill, it is good to have frequent check-ups. Your body is naturally weak, so itâs better to be more careful.â
I was right.
She pouted her mouth again when she saw him mouthing his words. When Kyle saw her like that, he burst into a small laugh, and Rosalind laughed at the end.
â
